convert 15 gal tank to hold 19 gallons for free?

has anyone ever heard that all tanks are 19 gallons even though some are advertised as 15 galolons? I have read "all over" the enternet that this is true and that you can drop your tank and cut off the overfill line shorter (the line that makes the auto shut off at the gas pump work) and you will be able to put 19 gallons in then? Ive been wanting to do this but want to confirm with someone they have did it and it worked. I hate to wasta an hour or 2 messing with it for no reason. Ive seen step by step direstions and pics on this.

Anyone ever do this?

I dont have the step by step - but I have searched it online and came back with several "how to's" all said that all TJ tanks are 19 gallons since 1998 that they stopped making the 15 gallon tank in 1997. Only differnce is that the 15 gallon tank will not fill "full" because of the overflow shutt off. All they did was drop the tank, remove the fuel pump, reach inside and cut off the overflow tube (it is molded as part of the tank - NOT a hose)

I just rying to confirm this and see if anyone has did this themselves? I dont wanna waste my time

thanks

Like I said before, it works. I followed that same write-up a few years ago. You will be able to carry at least 19 gallons in your tank before it starts to overflow.

Apparently you do all your wheeling within sight of a gas pump

Try a search here. Big Waylon did it to one of his tanks. If all else fails, I guess you could send him a PM.

You sure you have a 15 Gallon tank? Easiest way to find out is to check the part number on the driver's side of the tank:

52018 687 is a 15 gallon tank
52018 768 is a 19 gallon tank

They did away with the 15 gallon tank...I think in '00?
