Continuing AC Vacuum Questions

I had everything you can imagine wrong with my AC vacuum system. I found the vacuum line going to the panel actuator had come unplugged. Fixed that. Then I found that the plastic actuator arm itself had broken off. Fixed that. I had perfect AC for about two weeks. Today nothing. I took a look under the hood and traced the vacuum line from the top of the air intake over to the passenger side firewall where it t's off and enters the firewall. The line going into the firewall is okay, but the line going past the T is just hanging there. I can't find where it should connect. When I zip tie this line closed my vacuum is restored and the AC works fine again. This line must go somewhere and effect something though. Sorry for the long story and thanks for any help.

I think I found the box underneath the battery and where that vacuum line should attach. What is the function of this box though? The AC is working perfectly without the connection.

it is a vacuum storage canister it needs to be hooked up for the hvac system to work properly as your engine rpm varies

Okay, I found out the box under the battery tray is the vacuum reservoir. It appears to be a bit like an appendix and not necessary except under extreme circumstances. I am going to let things ride like they are with the vacuum line to the reservoir crimped until I have the time to take out the battery and tray to access the reservoir.

I can feel the connection, just can't see it from under the Jeep. This should keep for a while. At least the AC works. Cold air sure does feel great on a rainy, top-up, and humid Mississippi day.
