Powder coat is extremely durable as a paint process. Much more than typical paint. It is what they coat bumpers, rock guards, rock sliders, etc. with.

when black chrome first came out a few years back, i painted the wheels on my old WS-6 with. If i remember right, the aerosol cans were about $75 each, but it was damned good looking. If i had to say, it probably was identical to what you got there, but it was just paint, not powder. ill see if i can find the link to the stuff......

That stuff looks pretty good. I have tried all the rattle can chromes and they all suck. This stuff may be a little better. But here is the real thing.

http://www.calchrome.com/service_blackchrome.php#choices

The process I used is the closest I have ever seen to the real thing in person but can only be used on metal. This other stuff in a spray option may be useful on non metallic surfaces and seems to look good in pictures.

Depending on the part, and the temps that the part is subjected to, I'd assume it'd melt that finish right off.

Negative. Engine parts are powder coated all the time and don't know of any cases where it came off. One of the most popular things to powder coat is valve covers and intake manifolds. They look great and finish holds strong. Once this stuff is baked on in it is some strong.

Ive used Craftsmans system and it works out great. I think its 200 bucks tho. Craftsman also sells a few colors of powder for their gun too.
