Coil Spacer Lift...???
Who makes them, are they reliable? How many people use them? Is this a better alternative to a body lift? Any experience?

coil-overs are primarily for hardcore use. if you plan to do extensive rock crawling at Moab, the Rubicon, in Colorado and are looking to run 37s or larger...then you might consider coil-overs.
Fabtrash makes a bolt on coil-over kit, but I've heard 3-4 days of labor for 2 guys to install it. heard its very involved. most other coil-over suspensions you see will be custom made using long arm components from places like Clayton, RE or Full Traction. The coil-over mounts of then fabricated and welded to the frame by professionals. Poly Performance does make a TJ weld on coil-over kit. They use coil-overs from brands like CAGE, FOX, Bilstein or Sway-A-Way. All coil-over conversions I've seen have included extensive fabrication, wheelbase extension, axle swaps to D60s and/or 14-bolt rear, 8-lug full floaters, comp cut rear fenders, fuel cells and full cages. Basically, it becomes a trail rig only, pulled to the trail on a flatbed and not driven on the street due to beadlock rims & tire sizes that nearly impossible to balance for high speed highway use. That said, these rigs flex incredibly well, they can climb anything, and they are purpose built. Heres a write up: http://www.4wdandsportutility.com/tech/0702_4wd_jeep_tj_coilover_system/photo_02.html Thats got Dynatrac ProRock D60's front and rear (around $5000 each), and probably $3000 in coil-overs alone. Then you've got over $1200 in tires and rims, $2500 in custom cage and armor....and probably over 80 hrs in fabrication/building. If you've got that kind of money, and want the baddest rig in the area...then by all means go for it. Depending what you want to do, it is a better alternative to a 3" BL. Personally, I'd look into fender lifts and body trimming if you want to run 35s. You will need to swap the rear axle if you have a D35, and will most likely want alloy shafts in a D44 if you have it. I wouldn't got over a 1" BL.

Is it possible that you mean Coil spacers? The comparison of body lift to coilover seems odd to me.

I imagine the OP is talking about the budget boost and i would suggest Rubocin Express, they makes a kit that will lift ur rig about two inches

Yes, Coil Spacers, entirely wrong wording. I guess I need to redirect my title to the appropriate topic. Thx though unlimited04, interesting info a friend of my thought to be useful. But yes, Coil Spacers...Anybody have them, like them, hate them? Are they worth it? I currently run an OME setup, haven't tinkered around w/ teh ole jeep in a while, through some 33's on it recently and i need more clearance for offroad. Brands? Suggestions? Preciate it ya'll. And what is an "OP"?

As for spacers, I'd not recommend them with your OME lift for a couple reasons. First off, no matter how you get your suspension lift, whether via coils or spacers, you are still if effect doing the same thing to your driveline. Therefore, If you throw on a couple of spacers you might need to adjust your t-case drop or worse depending on how tall the spacers are. Since you have the OME lift, you probably have the t-case drop installed, right? If not, you will need it with the BB. I would recommend that you go with a small 1" BL and MML. This will give you the added height you need, and actually allow you to get rid of the t-case drop or not put one on. Therefore you'll get your clearance without losing any clearance under the belly.

you could also swap in the 4" OME coils as well, but again, that may call for an SYE/CV shaft.

Interesting....So w/ a BL and MML lift, I can eliminate my tcase drop annnd gain my 1" of clearance...I'll be. This is why I love JPforum...So what brand is suggested for a good BL/MML? Thanks for the suggestion on the 4" OME coils...I just wish my pockets were deep enough for a SYE right now.

I have the JKS 1.25" BL/MML installed with the OME lift. I netted 3.75" of lift. Plenty to clear 33s nicely. Flexes well, and no rubbing. ![]()

Awesome, now, hopefully my last question...will the JKS MML fit a 2.4l? It says for the 4.0l and 4.2l only...? Anybody shed some light on this?

i run 1'' spacers with my 2'' coils now..
actually i ordered the jks adjustable spacers to replace the bb and im giving the bb and my old shocks to my gfs dad.. the bb arent a bad way to go for the price.. try the RE 2'' bb with the monotube shocks.. it shouldnt change from the stock ride.. except the shocks might be a little bit nicer than the stock ones.. like someone said earlier.. a 2'' bb and a 1.25'' jks bl.. you'll have more than enough clearance for a 33'' tire (oops should have read down a tad bit.. the 1'' bb will push your coils down.. actually affecting your suspension unlike a body lift.. but it will also affect your drivetrain.. if you have a tc drop on now.. you might need to add a few spacers to it.. you might not have to, all jeeps are different) also you could be limited by your shocks, my shocks are for 0-2'' of lift, im running 3'' and it seems that the shocks are limiting my flex.. longer shocks are on the way for the acos tho =D if your just wanting to add extra clearance for your 33s on your current lift.. id say do a 1.25'' jks bl with the 1'' jks mml |
