Clutch Master Cylinder Install

Was just wondering if anyone could give me some tips on replacing my '97 TJ Master Cylinder Clutch.

I have the new part(s) and will be replacing it in a few hours (gotta sleep & wait for the sun )

I havn't been able to find any writeups online so i figure i'd ask the boards..

Never had to replace the clutch before so if there are any tips ppl can give ahead of time i'll deffinantly take em

I imagin i'll have to bleed some lines, any suggestions on that? The master cylinder says it just uses brake fluid so i'll have to pick that up I guess.... Other than that I was told it was a fairly simple install...

I just ordered a new one from autozone btw... I don't have the replacement kit from Jeep... Didn't know they sold one to tell the truth until after I bought the master cylinder seperate

Thanks In Advance!
~James

It is just like replacing a master cylinder...bolt it in, gravity bleed it with the lines loose, tighten the lines and bleed the slave cylinder. It's pretty easy, done it on 10 differn't vehicles...their all the same.

Bench bleed the master before installing it.
It should come with instructions and a couple pieces of tubing.

Thnx for the tips, I'm starting the install now I figure I got today to figure out and if I do screw up I have till the en d of monday to fix it

Looking uder the hood it looks as thought the hardest part is going to be bleeding the line. I guess there are only 2 bolts for the master cylinder cia the firewal... And I RELLLY wish it did come with instructions, cause atm I'm just looking at how the current one is comming apart and doing the opposite with the new one

I personaly don't like bench bleeding, makes a mess when trying to start the lines.
MY $.02

But it's the correct way to install a M/C and the only real way to make sure that all the air is removed quickly.

We wouldn't have installed one any other way.

Yes it is the correct way (by the book) to install it, but when installing all other components in the brake system (ABS controller, wheel cylinders calipers) bench bleeding is not an option and gravity bleeding is the only way to do it right. I have found from personal experience the bench bleeding just makes a mess and then you have brake fluid all over your and the the master cylinder which can drip onto the paint (not good).

Either way you go you need a friend with a stong leg who has some time to kill.

Or one of the many types of vacuum or pressure bleeders.

Ahhh, didn't read it close enough, however, having said that, the clutch masters are suppose to be sealed units, clutch/slave combos for TJ's..
Still, a master cylinder is a master cylinder none the less

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE !!

Question on that. I just replaced the power booster and the MC on my friends 97tj and bleed the system nicely, but now there is no clutch pedal pressure at all. What needs to be done to fix that ? bleed the clutch mc/slave cylinder ?
