Clutch interlocking bypass
I am having trouble with the clutch interlocking system. It is stopping my jeep from starting. I have bypassed it to figure out the problem by inserting the fuse. When I put the fuse in, the 4wd light comes on. I know the vehicle is not in 4wd. The manual also cautions the bypass should only be used in 4low offroad for a limited time. What damage could be done if i bypass this interlock? It seems like it serves purely as a safety function. Anyone know if operating with the bypass in place will cause a problem or does chrysler place all the limitations on it so you don't use it regularly, to make sure you don't start your jeep in gear and run someone over?
Also, Where is the clutch fluid check? I can't find the darn thing. (2005 TJ) Thanks, Unlimited 4x4

NO damage will or even could be caused. That disclaimer is only from their nervous lawyers afraid you'll kill someone by accidentally forgetting to start your Jeep in neutral or with the clutch down.
The clutch fluid reservoir is next to the master brake cylinder and brake fluid reservoir.

This will sound like an ignorant question. Does the clutch take DOT 3 fluid? I see the cap next to the master cylinder calls for DOT 3. Is this the clutch? Or am I confused?

I've bypassed this on every vehicle I've owned that had one. Ah, if it were only as easy for all the rest of them as on a TJ!
I like to start up the Jeep without having to jump in and push a clutch pedal. I can just reach in with the key and turn it over - I always leave it in N when it's parked. |

Thanks for the responses. Also, Is the interlock system the sensor at the top of the clutch pedal? Is it easy to replace, or is it some complicated gizmo I should leave for a real mechanic?

It's a simple on-off switch. Cut the wires to it and splice them together.
