Clutch bypass Fuse

So i have an 06 rubi LJ and went to put the 10 amp fuse into the Clutch bypass location and i felt it wasnt grabbing. I look into the location and it doesnt look like there are connectors in the fuse box to accept the fuse.

Do i have to take that fuse box off and install connectors? something seems a little goofy here. wtf

I did this to mine a while back, i put the fuse in and started right up without the clutch. Also worked on my friends 99 and 02. There was nothing else to it, just stuck the fuse in there. As simple as can be.

I did read somewhere the this mod doesn't work on newer TJs, ( i wanted to say it was 05-06, but am not 100% on which years)

The mod does work on 05's, I've done it to mine. Couldn't tell you though if it works on 06's. Make sure you are looking at the right slot. Could it maybe be one to the left or right or up or down from the one you are looking at? Are there any others that are blank right near the one you are looking at, but DO have connectors in them for a fuse? I know that on my 05 there is a blank spot with nothing in it, just like you are describing, right beside the ctual clutch bypass fuse spot. I use it to hold the "spare" fuse that I'd use for the bypass if I ever needed to.

If you're interested in how I did this on my 99 XJ, read on..

There is no clutch bypass fuse on the XJ's so I found the clutch interlock switch down by the clutch pedal, ran some 16 gauge speaker wire to a switch, and spliced it into the clutch interlock switch. With the switch on, the Jeep starts sans clutch, Switch off, everything back to normal...

I know that on my '05 Rubi the clutch bypass is in the underhood fuse box (per owners manual), and there are no connectors for it. So I have no way of starting without the clutch unless I have it in 4Lo. The owners manual says to stick a fuse into the slot, but there's no wires in the slot to grab the fuse..So I'm SOL on that area. If any of you know a fix, please let me know.

The reason there's no fuse in the Rubi is because it automatically defeats the clutch in 4-lo, no need for it.

hm, so there is a marked location called "clutch bypass" for the fuse?

I put my fuse in what was labeled as "Auto Trans".

it was in the fuse box behind the glove box, bottom left.

Sound like YSALRIZ is right. Must be a Rubicon thing. It still would be nice to be able to reach in and start it while working on it without being in 4 low

oh well

thanks everyone

mine doesn't start in 4lo without the clutch being depressed, should it? (04 sport) or is this just a rubi thing?

I think it's just a Rubi thing. My last TJ ('02 X) had a fuse insert inside of the glovebox fuse panel and it would start in any XFer case setting without the clutch, but without the fuse inserted would not start in any without the clutch.
