Clunking in the front end.....

Hey guys,

I have a clunking in the frt end of my `03 Rubi. It happenes when going over a series of bumps like gravel or road construction. It seems like it is coming from the drivers` side frt. I checked the frt end and everything is tight. I`m thinking it is the steering intermediate shaft, the reason I say that is bc it is common on Ford trucks and it sounds like the same noise.
I asking if anyone has had a similar noise and what they did to fix it or if the TJ has a problem with the steering shafts causing a clunking noise.

Thanks guys and any info will be appreciated,

Mike

I had a similar noise coming from the front of my 04 Rubi, sort of a knocking or clunking noise. Originally thought something could have been loose as well, but turned out to be broken sway bar link. Check yours, if you see any movement at the top of the link, replace them. Easy job and pretty cheap part to get. Fixed all knocking noises for my Rubi.

Check the bushings on your control arms too.

I have the same clunk when going over certain type of bumps... doesn't sound like what the link above explains..

had two mechanics (one a 4x4 jeep shop) try and find the problem. nada - even went on this board and wrote down all the places to check...

guess i'll just have to wait till something breaks..

It could also be your shock bushings, some bar pin eliminators may help
