clanking sound under the jeep

any help would be appreciated,

shifting in and outa gear is fine but engaging the clutch is hairy. if i feather it gently nothing happens. but if i pop the clutch, or engage it harder than normal, there is a single clanking sound. not really a bang or a grind, just a bump, i just put a lift on like 2000 miles ago, and i have not touched it...

thanks for the help,

matthew

I had a similar noise, it was the tailpipe hitting the gas tank skid. If so just bend the hanger.

I agree with Chili, the lift did draw your exhaust closer to the tank......the engine torquing is causing the exhaust to hit the frame or tank...........bend the hanger just to be sure.

I had a similar noise, it was the tailpipe. the shock mounts can also cause this type of noise, as can the tranny mount. Also double check all your bolts etc...retighten everything. buddy had a similar sound only when braking hard...found 2 loose control arm bolts. there are a lot of bolts under the jeep - make it a habit to check them every oil change and you will be able to find small problems and fix them before they become big problems. I usually do an 'under the frame' inspection after each offroading trip.
