Anyone have a link for the LDI website? Can't seem to find anything being that there are 4 billion companies named LDI.

Looks like that could have been a lobe hardening issue - if it were oil related, all the lobes would have had similar wear.

One thing we notice on this is the #4 intake cam lobe doesn't not sit centered when looking down into the lifter hole. Once the lifter wore the lobe down enough you can see marks where it rode on the shaft area becasue it was offset about 10% off the lobe. Ive seen this problem before when someone upgrades a cam and lobes dont sit properly for all the lifters holes.

This could possibly by part of the problem with OPDA gear issues if the gear set is unmatched for proper gear mess due to improper cam alignment. It could be assume if someone has a problem with OPDA then it wont be long before the lifter & lobe wears out.

I pulled every distributor from 5 XJ 4.0's ranging in early 90's to late from our junkyard the gear was the same and they all had the same wear so I took one that was worn the least.

Crown makes one. They are available through 4 Wheel Parts. They are listed for ’04 & earlier. Should work. Need to finish drilling 2nd hole

http://www.4wd.com/productdetails.aspx?partID=11465

Dorman has a complete ’04 OPDA with a gear that is supposed to work by re drilling it.
Rock Auto has them I think the # is DORMAN 689-200. It is called Camshaft Synchronizer. It is $32.

Hesco has a bronze gear that may or may not be for street use. Its $89 I think.

CHECK YOUR CAM GEAR!

OK, my 05' Unlimited has a build date of 10/04 and I called up a Jeep dealership and they punched in my VIN # and said the E05 recall does not apply to me at all. DOes this mean I have the old style OPDA with the "oil groove" in the shaft?

FWIW my 4.0L engine has 89k on the odometer, I pulled the head, the lifters and camshaft look brand new still, no signs of wear anywhere, but I have yet to pull the OPDA............

That's what I thought. The thread title really needs to be updated.
