If you are talking about the new trailblazer i 6 and not the old vortec 4.3 v 6 . It will be hard as well it will be difficult . The new i 6 in the trailblazer has the axleshaft for the front ifs pass through the oil pan . So you would have to get a pan for it and then I am not sure how you would get around the differential as it looks in the pictures to be partof the block assembly . I am sure you can take it apart but what will you do with the cac=vitys and holes behind ? If its more poer you want in a i 6 put the new holley aluminum head kit on your tjs i 6 . Holley claims 300 hp bolt on . Happy jeepin !

thanks for ur help it seems to be very involved swap. It just seemed like a good choice for an engine giving its power and fuel economy.

Dru, there is a reason why the TJ was designed with the 4.0 straight 6. Jeep could have very easily went with a V-6 in the TJ redesign. But, I-6's have better low end torque and HP curves and are specifically better in serious 4x4 rigs. The TJ inline 6 is not a lack of an "upgrade," it is a specific choice that Jeep made to give serious 4x4'ers what they need to 4x4. (Another reason why Jeep is cool.)
Sure you get better gas milage with a V-6, but there is no way I'd want one instead of the I-6 off road.
I think the Jeep owner's bible goes into some detail on this.

it makes sense why they chose the engine. I'm not complaining about that at all. I use it more for road use, with only light offroading. So for me a 290 hp engine with decent torque would be perfect, just enough for my light off roading and it would fly on the road.

Dru, sorry if you already knew all that....
I hear you, I just bought my '01, and those new Liberty's sure were tempting. But, when it really came down to it, I just had to have the Wrangler. I'll suffer the gas mileage 98% of the time for the 2% peace of mind when all hell is breaking loose on the trail.
(Though I could have found a place for the winch on the Liberty, hmmmmm... now how would I get the top down? hmmm....)
