Check Engine light on, odd smell - Page 2

Hmmm, maybe your cat was just breaking in and hence the odor and you just happened to not fasten the gas cap tightly..... hmmmmm

For those of you that wanted to hear the response:

Jeep got a 'clean bill of health' today -- the smell was, as most of you suggested, the catalytic converter breaking in. Apparently the smell should stop at some point, though it varies cat-to-cat.

As for the check engine light, the assembly that holds the gas tank housing to the frame was loose, creating a huge lack of suction and a "large leak" as they said. That was patched up with a few twists of a wrench, and i'm back to where i started, smelling like propane and onions.
