Check Engine Light = misfire on 3rd Cyl. Problem??

Hey,

I let go of the key about half a second too early when i was starting it the other day, and the engine clunked to a halt instead of staying running. Then, when i started it again, my CEL was on.

I had my buddy run the diagnostics tool which came up with "Misfire on 3rd cylinder" ( i think it was code P0303). It seems not to be a real problem b/c the jeep is running fine, so i had him clear it.

Do i have to worry about this at all, or did it just misfire because i didn't let the engine finish starting?

Thanks

My suggestion would be to give it a few days and see if your Jeep throws the same code again. If the Jeep's running fine and doesn't throw a code in a few days, then I wouldn't worry about it. You may have just confused the computer a bit with the false start. If it comes back then pull the plugs and put in fresh ones....paying particular attention to #3. If the plug that comes out of #3 is badly fouled or damaged, then you may have a different problem. I had a plug shaft crack and eventually blew out the plug.....got a misfire code, changed all my plugs (because my thought is: If you're going to change one, then change them all!) and everything was good. Just make sure they're gapped properly....I bought some that were supposed to be pre-gapped, but I guess a couple had been dropped or something because two of the six had no gap what so ever.
