Check engine light and engine sthal after cleaning battery posts
I removed my battery to clean up the battery acid that had accumilated, I just bought this 98 TJ two days ago, and now when I drive it it will sometimes stahl out and or stumble when you give it gas, it also idles high - at 1250 RPM (standard trans). I did spray some water in the area and was wondering if there is something there I could have possibly gotten wet. I have run it for a while hoping that anything that had gotten wet would have dried.
Any help and or constructive suggestions please! Aloha

The computer could have gotten kind of jumbled depending on how cleanly its power was reconnected. Try disconnecting the battery for two minutes to reset it, then reconnect the cables.
If there is water in a sensor connector, that could cause the problems too. It should dry out in a day or two. WD-40 could be used to rinse out all the plugs and connectors too since that would chase all the remaining moisture out.

Thanks for the reply. I did disconect the battery again (did it twice), both times it was ok (no check engine light), until it did it's first stumble then the light came on. I am thinking as you stated that some connector has gotten wet and is just not drying out. I have also tried doing the error code check, as described in this forum. When I do it I do not get any firmware version nor do I get any error codes, it does however go through it's little calibration/check of the guages.
Thanks again for the reply, Aloha |

I'd get a can of WD-40 and one-by-one, disconnect the sensor plugs starting by the air intake and shake any water out, then rinse them with WD-40, then shake the excess WD-40 out and reconnect it. Hit all the sensor connectors you can find then see if your problem has gone away.
