Check engine light :(

Hey everybody, the check engine light came on after washing my engine compartment with some low pressure water. I don't know what I did. I made sure not to get any water on any electrical business and I put a rag in the air intake. It idols really low 750ish rpm, and almost stalls when I come to a stop (red light, stop sign etc). Also when it shifts up (its an automatic) it revs on and off around 2400 rpm and again around 2800rpm after it shifts into 3rd. Does anybody know what might be ailing my poor tj?

You need to get the code to diagnosis. Key off-on-off-on-off-on and the code will display in the odometer. (I would guess the TPS which would be a 0122, 0123 but you need to get the code first)

And if that doesn't work for ya (some people can't get it to work) then just go to Autozone and they will read your code for free.

2000 model wont do the key trick, only 2003 and later that utilized the j1850 serial bus data protocol. you have to scan that one. go to autozone

This same thing happened to me a long time ago. Most things under the hood do not like water/moisture. You must check all connections and make sure they are all dry. Apply a little of that electrical grease (?) to insure they stay dry. Oh yea, get the code first.
