If you actually find any cheap ways to gain horsepower, please inform the world and Jeep engineering. There are some cheap things you can do to your Jeep to make it better at offroading however, which is your Jeep's real role in life.

I'll be the first...

Sell your jeep and buy something with a V8.

seriously, If it were cheap the manufacture would make it that way.

The I6 engine is a torque motor, low end grunt, it aint a muscle car, it ain't a
sports car. It ain't a SUV.

It is a 1/4 ton truck.

That'll only make more torque. To make more horsepower you will
have to shorten the stroke of the engine to make it a rever.

Which is what D/C tried to do with the 4.0 from the 4.2.

Replace the motor oil with chocolate syrup. Stickers are worth 10hp each.

All the Horse power adders are all snake oil.

the Computer adjust the fuel/air ratio and spark for a balance of
economy and power. Anything you do to the engine, the computer will adjust
to get it back to the original curve.

You may see a change at first but it will "correct" it out soon.

Spacers, filters, they don't work in the long run.

The only thing that can change it is cramming more air in like a turbo
or supercharger, or more displacement like a bigger engine.

A lower temp theromstat will trick the computer to keep it in the
"warm up loop" and force more fuel into the engine. It'll make a little more power,
but you will loose economy though.

both the I6 and the I4 are designed to run "lean", and the computer likes to keep
it that way.

That is beyond a shadow of a doubt the most ignorant statement i have read lately. Have a great day.

Drop weight

Seriously, put your jeep on a diet.

1. Got a hard top? ditch it.
2. Take your jugs off the bumpers.
3. Cut the front bumper (search here and see how).
4. Don't put rims on without looking at how much they weigh.
5. Clean all your junk out of the back, except for basic essentials (search here and see what those are)
6. Take the doors off

You can probably loose 300+ lbs with 1-6. In terms of power/weight ratio, that's like 10% more power.

unfortunately everything you want to do to improve your vehicles offroad capability ADDS weight...

lift with bigger tires
heavy duty bumper/winch plate/winch
skid plates and armor
rear bumper/tire carrier (for the bigger full sized spare)
jerry cans cause there is no gas station on the trail*
recovery gear and tools*

* can be removed for daily driving

figure I have added 300-400 lbs to my rig
