Charocal cannister replacement

I've been living with a CEL(442 455). Replaced the gas cap. Wrapped a hose going to the EVAP in the wheel well. This weekend I pulled the inner fender cover and it rained charcoal bits!

Has anyone reppaced the charcoal cannister? Pretty straight forward? Jeep tells me 124 for the cannister.

What do you guys think?

I think you can get it here for $77.17.

That looks about right. Thanks!

Would there be any adverse effect to driving it for a day or two with the canistter removed?

You might make a Native American cry. But otherwise no. It could possibly (but not likely) run a little weird.

When I got my trailer hitch installed, they screwed the ground wire into the charcoal canister. I had the Evap leak code, but near the same time I also put on a locking gas cap and that is what everybody told me was throwing the code. It was almost two years later that I got sick of the code and really tracked it down.

Doesn't really help you, just ranting. With the small hole, it didn't effect driving however. I guess that kinda helps you.

I guess I should have held on to mine so I could sell it to someone. I threw it away. Several people have taken out this canister and put a bypass hose in. I am told it works fine and does not create any errors. I have not started nor driven the Jeeps since I took it out to verify.

ALLRIGHT! I had time to remove the canister last night. Nice clean 3/8 in hole right through the outboard side. Found a boot that was craked and dry rotted. Replaced the boot, patched the hole with silicone, no CEL light so far. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
