Charging system question
Ok back when I was a kid cars and trucks ran off the Gen or alt. Does a 2001 Jeep with a 2.5 run off the battery or the alt?
I'm asking because the gage in the dash shows a battery instead of saying alt, and last night I got jumped once and 5 miles later I got towed, both times there was enough power to run the radio, but not the starter.

It runs off the battery which provides the exciter voltage for the alternator. If the battery is bad it might not be able to get the alternator to out put any juice.
