Sounds like a bad alt. to me. Easy check, fire up the motor check your volts w/a volt meter, at the battery and alternator, now turn on your head lights, take the same measurements, if you see a nasty drop in voltage, you have a bad alternator.
This test is easiest if the battery is fully charged. Let it sit on a trickle charger the night before, just to ensure, test the battery before you start anywhere else, to ensure you don't have a dead cell. You might want to think about purchasing a battery charger with electrical systems diagnostic capabilities...I have a Schumacher (for my exact model see below) that does this and it's one of those things that you don't need very often, but when you do need it, your damned glad you have it. Well I have replaced the alternator and everything seems to be back to normal. Of course I wont really know until its been driven for a few days but I am feeling more at ease about it, especially after seeing the gauge jump upto and hold at 14. Thanks for the input guys.
