Ok not trying to be rude OP, but man I don't understand why you would not want to tackle this your self first? hell shulda even gave some duck tape a try But If I was going to drop the coin you are about to on a tranny, I would beat the **** outta it first.
There is no quick fix for this problem. I also don't have the time to mess around with well intentioned ideas that don't work.

Right now its just a cracked case, but I start screwing around, with band aid repairs and when that band aid solution fails, and I'm out in the middle of nowhere; I would still have a cracked case only now I could be in the middle of nowhere, plus a tow charge, and if I didn't catch the band aid failure in time, I would be looking at the entire tranny being nothing more then a really expensive door stop. In the long run; this I believe is the cost effective solution. This machine is also my DD, so I don't have the luxury of experimenting.
I know you mean well, and I do appreciate it.

Beemerd... First your tires, now your tranny, don't touch your engine :-), or try to wax your jeep, I would hate for you to have to get your jeep repainted or rebuild your motor.

Why not just take it to a welder? They could fusion weld it, and then add some extra material to the case.......

Cast aluminium, very difficult to weld.

I'm done working on the Jeep. With my bad luck with the torque wrench has taken away any desire I've had to work on this thing. I'll stick to software engineering and accounting, and let someone that knows what they're doing to work on my Jeep.

Okay, I got the Jeep back. While it was in the shop I had the diffs, transfer case, transmission and motor switched to synthetic. The clutch and bearing were replaced, so no more noise when the clutch is released, and wow it shifts amazing! New U joints up front, the original were close to death. What is also close to death is me; especially after my wife saw the bill which came a pubic hair under $4 BIG ONES You live. You learn. Not really bothered by the money spent, at least now it is running on new fluids, and new clutch...new U joints, and a few other new things.

NO no no no no. Doing it myself is what got me in this mess. I can change oil, and things like that, but anything requiring a torque wrench is out of my sphere of responsibility. Not trying to defend myself here, but if not for a non-functioning torque wrench, I wouldn't be $4K lighter in the wallet.

Trust me 'Mon ami' (I assume you're a guy, otherwise: 'Mon amie'), I have no desire to touch anything more then the steering wheel, pedals, doors and buttons You are correct; some are best to let others do their bidding.

As for rising to the level of Tim the Toolman Taylor, my wife would agree :

I'll stick to software, and network engineering. I say, let the pro's do it

Actually, my mechanic said to me: "Dwayne, don't do that again" :

Not sure why I just spent 10 minutes reading this thread. I think it's because I'm amazed at how well beemerd handled himself in this situation. I probably would have gone back at Chrysler one more time with the regional rep upon learning that a few other had the same issue recently. Sucks that it cost 4 grand. But he can own up to the mistake, pay the money, and take sh** from the jf crowd pretty freakin' well.

I think the first I thing I would do after shelling out 4 grand on a new tranny, is burn that f---ing torque wrench.
