Chains for winter?

I used to do my winter wheelin' on Long Island NY, and 4 wheel drive with decent tires was all you needed, but there really aren't any hills on LI.

So, what do people prefer for chains? Front only, back only, all 4 wheels? No chains at all?

Thanks for any help...

Where do you live now? I use a set of Bridgestone Winter Dueler Snow and Ice tires and they are terrific on pavement. I don't know about using them for off road use in the winter, though they should be fine. I can drive up hills in rear drive with these new tires.

Thank!

I'm living in Portland, Oregon. We have a few hills in town, but it's only a few minutes to total wilderness here, and some serious snow wheelin'...
