Center Bezel Redesign - NAV / Audio / Switches
My Jeep has so many add-ons now, I'm almost embaressed to post interior pictures... it's just a mess of various different add-on switches.
I want to use the Contura swiches (ARB style) for everything... The idea being that if everything looks the same, it'll start to look factory. The idea is to use an S-POD style console overhead for 6-7 of the things, and then do some fiberglass work on the center bezel to get a result something like this: ![]() The switches are gonna cost me more in shipping than the actual parts cost, so I just want to make sure I've got one for anything I could ever possibly need. At less than $5 each, I'm happy to stock up, and make sure the dash is done right the first time. So - have a browse over the following and if you can think of anything I've forgotten do let me know ![]() Overhead Console: Lightbar Fog Lights Driving Lights Side Lights Rear Lights Ground Lights Top Left: Hazards - SPST Air Horn - SPST Momentary Top Center: Air Compressor SwayLock Front Locker Rear Locker Top Right: AMP Side Step Kill - Driver Power Windows - Driver Power Windows - Passenger AMP Side Step Kill - Passenger Central Lock Column on the Left: Video Source AV Selector Camera Selector Bluetooth Answer / Hangup Parking Sensors Off TPMS Off Defrost Wiper / Washer Winch Master Winch In / Out Cigar Lighter Socket Mounted to the Knee Panel behind steering wheel: Push Button Engine Start (hey the wiring is already done thanks to faulty ignition switch - click here Also appreciate your comments on the appearance of the whole thing or what you'd do differently. Switches were put on the drivers side to reduce the passengers temptation to play with them ![]()

That's a sweet setup but I can't imagine needing that many switches for anything...
On the upside I can't imagine you needing a switch for anything else. |

I think it'll be like Windows... if I'm not careful, I might discover a certain key combination has that effect

Unless you do some serious cutting I don't think the center stack is wide enough have all that next to standard DIN size stereo/NAV equipment.
I would think the top set of switches and sPOD overhead type unit would be more switches than you could need! |

Don't forget to have some switches labeled "Passenger Ejection Seat" or similar!

Various light controls - different conditions call for different lights... for example if the car infront is kicking up dust, my spot lights aimed down at the ground are good but my fog lights cause too much glare on the dust in the air and make it harder to see. The lights I really thought about combining but decided against it. Top Left Cluster - Out here it's almost a daily occurance that someone does something stupid on the highway and everyone slams the anchors on. It's customary out here to hit the hazards when you're coming to a stop so the guy behind doesn't run into you. Most modern cars have the hazard buttons on the dash rather than on the steering column so I'd like to do the same. Having the Air Horn next to it makes sense. Top Right Cluster - Power windows go in next week hopefully, and I'm really not a fan of the supplied door mounted switches so I'd like them to be on the dash like on a JK. I also wanted manual control of my retracting side steps. An easy feature to add. Left Column - the AV selectors will allow me to choose what goes into the screen input. Currently my Jeep has a rear view camera, DVD player, Windows XP media center, and additional cameras. I choose which one I want by walking round to the passenger side, tucking my head under the dash and swapping around some RCA connectors. I'd like a more on-the-fly solution ![]() Parking Sensors and TPMS off - I'd like to kill the parking sensors while reversing with a trailer, and I'd like to kill the TPMS at times. Also having an on-off switch gives me the ability to activate the learning procedure without shutting down and re-starting the engine. Handy when I've forgotten to do it and we're already on the move. Think that covers it... Basically I'm just looking for ideas for what May be needed in the future so I can incorporate that into the design from day one, with just a switch-blank occupying the hole for now. |

I could also keep it centered with one column of switches on either side but I think Conturas always look great next to each other. I've done quite a bit of work with rapid prototyping now with some work projects done in China, and it's very impressive what 3D printers are able to turn out these days. I want to attempt to 3D print the new dashboard, rather than modify the existing one. Paint the produced part and it should fit right in - with all the holes for the switches pre-cut ![]() The current model is a quick draft. When I find somewhere that can print it here in the UAE I'll start working on an accurate model with thickness. |
