Camshaft Synchronizer issues....I think.

After doing lots of research for my issue, I'm stumped.

Beginning of this week, on my way to work, I started her up, threw it in drive and left...no issues. I get about 1/2 mile away and there's the "flapping" sound or "ticking", it gets louder as you accelerate and quieter as you decelerate.

I turned around and got it home. After pin pointing this noise, the target was the Camshaft sensor..I can physically feel it "tapping". So, to play it safe, I bought a new Camshaft Position Sensor and Camshaft Synchronizer. Oh, the original Camshaft Sensor literally melted. After the replacement, I started her up and she kept doing a hesitation once you stepped on the gas...I thought I must've screwed up the timing (somehow). So I checked that and it was ok...never moved. I decided to take it for a quick ride and the hesitation went away. Drove back home, figured everything was good and turned it off.

About 2hrs later I went to start it, she started, but then after 1 min started rumbling and as I put it in Reverse to get out my driveway, it stalled. I started it again, same thing.

Long story short, I took out the new Cam Synchronizer and put back in the old one with the new Cam Position Sensor...she's 100% again....

Can the new Cam Sync be broke or something? Since the replacement of the old one, she's got that "flapping/tapping" noise again but barely noticeable.

Comments? Suggestions?

Thanks,

Jen

What is the condition of the original part? Is the gear chewed up or what?

There is no gear? The only gear would be towards the end of the oil pump drive, which mates with the camshaft.

I don't believe you pulled the drive out,did you?If you did pull the drive out, then you are definitely out of sync! All there is to removing the CPS is two little bolts and the plug.

Do a search. The gear on the end of shaft, is exactly what you should be concerned with.
