Bunch o' questions

I have a 99 TJ now and I am thinking about trading in for 2002.

1. I plan on getting a hard top and I am pretty sure the soft top is standard. What I ideally want to get is a Tonneau Cover, Windscreen cover & Bonnett. I know sometimes the jeep has to have Hard or Soft cover only in order to use specific types of covers... any info on this? And Where would be a good place to find these covers... other than Mopar.

2.Second question, if I order a new jeep i was just going to have it come with the sports bar and standard radio. I am not as fancy as alot of you on this board.. I just want to be able to have a 5 disc CD changer, detachable face... am/fm kind of deal, but I am clueless on what would be needed, cost, if this can be done, if detachable face is necessary. etc.

any and all advise would be so appreciated

You can find the covers you are looking for in a lot of places. 4WD Hardware Inc., Jeep Essentials Quadratec, JC Whitney... You can get a detachable face radio for fairly cheap, just have to look around and see what you like.

Why would you trade, unless it's a lease return? It's the perfect age to start abusing a bit and the tops can be purchased after market.

As far as the stereo goes, I just use the factory casette with an RF changer. I tried the detachable face, but I either left it at work, home or in the car. Left in in the car one too many times and it grew legs. Fancy stereos are for prople more responsible, or richer than I am.

Bestop (www.bestop.com) prob has the best lookin jeep covers/tops and a good price. I drive a 2001 TJ, got the jeep bug early, built it up and voided every part of its warranty. What I'm saying is a 2002 will be nice, but if you really want to make it a real Jeep w/o putting holes in your pocket, your 99 TJ is perfect. But if you want to cruise around, enjoy life in your jeep and stay off the tough trails for a while, go for the 2002.

About the stereo, a detachable face is a good idea to prevent people screwin with it, also from water or dirt getting in it but is it worth the money??? For your 99 I would consider it but for the 2002, I wouldn’t. Just throw a 6-disc CD changer under your rear seat and you have it made.

Yep. . . My 99 that I Love is a Lease, and I have put on 60K miles on it. That is why I am starting fresh with a 2002, this time buying it. But I am trying to buy it striped, and then I will put the radio in myself and the top.

Thank You all for the info. It was so needed and So appreciated.

One last question... For the additional tops does it matter if your car comes factory with Hard/Soft/both?

You're biggest consideration with the tops is the doors. If you buy the hard top, you get full steel doors which some might say would look stupid with the soft top on/down. Mine came with the hard top/soft top with the full steel doors. It comes with the upper half windows and door frames but you don't have the half steel doors to go with them.
