"LCOG" isn't cheap and it certainly isn't easy. If you think so, you are doing it wrong. If you aren't willing to put in the effort, don't label your build "LCOG". You are just a cheap ******bag.

I hear ya, but a tank with 150 psi in it wouldn't be too good failing, either. Thats why I'm going to keep it drained unless I'm on-road (if I decide to get pneumatic horns, lol) or if I get pneumatic lockers like ARBs.

I'll have accurate times for filling the tank from 0-150 psi, and for filling tires my 33x10.5" BFG ATs from 14-28 psi tonight when I do a test. I'll also have a crap load of pics of the setup since there really aren't that many.

I work at a company that works a lot with pneumatic air brake systems, but I'm still learning — I'm no engineer. If you see anything that you think could be simplified or made more efficient, please let me know and I'll take it into consideration when I have to tear everything out to do my undercoating sound deadening next summer.

Check back tonight for a lot of stuff!

Well here it is!! Tested everything and it's all just so perfect ... I'm very pleased. Just so all the information is in one spot, here is a reiteration of the kit information:

Viair 100% Constant Duty On Board Air Kit p/n 10007 -- got it off a local forum member for $150 or so.
  • 12V magnetic motor; draws 19 amps maximum
  • Uses Viair 450C compressor; 100% duty cycle @ 100 psi; 0.97cfm @ 90 psi
  • 2.5 gallon tank, 150 psi max
  • Rated for 37"+ tires
These are my ACTUAL test results from this afternoon:
  • Charging tank from 0-150psi = 4 mins 40 secs
  • Fill one 33x10.5" tire from 14-30psi = 1 min
  • Fill all tires including checking spare = 4 mins 30 secs
I'm pretty stoked ... what used to take about 20-25 mins using someone else's portable 12V compressor, now takes under 5 mins with a system that I never have to worry about packing or taking up ANY storage space. I can also use it to operate pneumatic lockers (ARB), pneumatic horns, and low cfm air tools (blower mostly). Very pleased.

Onto the pictures:

Quote:
450C compressor motor and pressure switch mounted to my once-unused ABS tray (driver's side firewall under master cylinder) after some fab work to the tray to support and fit the compressor. It's a large compressor and it barely fits. First picture shown from the driver's side of the engine bay; the second shown from the front of the engine bay:

Quote:
Braided stainless steel leader hose from the compressor hooked to the 1/4" rubber hose to the tank via quick disconnect. Also, the 3-way compression fitting that splits the 1/4" PVC air line from the tank to the pressure gauge in the cab and to the pressure switch next to the compressor. First picture shown from above the engine bay looking down the firewall; second shown from below the firewall looking up:

Quote:
2.5 gallon tank mounted just behind the transfer case in between the drive shaft and the driver's side frame rail. I cycled the suspension and nothing interferes. Fittings are:
  • Front two: 1/4" compression fitting for the pressure gauge / pressure switch line; 175 psi safety valve.
  • Rear two: Two 1/4" nipples for the 1/4" rubber lines -- one from the compressor and one that goes to the quick disconnect for external hose outlet.
  • Top: Drain valve just to take up the extra hole in the tank.
  • Bottom: The actual drain valve used to drain system condensation.
I don't really see the drain valve getting torn off because it sits about 2" higher than the frame rail and much, much higher than the LCA and axle.

Quote:
Shot of the 1/4" rubber fill line and 1/4" PVC "auxiliary" line routed along the driver's side frame rail to the front of the TJ.

Quote:
Temporary location of air quick disconnect outlet ... zip tied above driver's side frame rail. Easy enough to get to, out of harm's way, and should stay relatively clean even though I need to find a cap for it. Also shown is the 1/4" coiled hose used to fill all four tires and spare ... can reach all the way around the TJ without going under the vehicle.

Quote:
Illuminated pressure gauge (0-150 psi) and temporary location of compressor power switch. When I get my switch panel made up it'll go there with a nice rocker.

Overall I'm very pleased with the system!! Any questions please let me know, and any shoot any suggestions at me.

Looks good man. Did you just bolt the tank through the floorboard?

Yep, sure did. Just transferred the tank's bolt holes to a sheet of paper and marked the bottom of the tub after I mocked the tank there. Plenty stout. With the bolt heads on the inside of the tub you can barely tell it's there. With my Husky liners over top the rear passenger foot well it's invisible. Need two people to put it on, though.

I have a 400P-Automatic Viair currently. After seeing JeepinTJ99's setup, I think I may just get an Onboard Air hookup kit and tank and mount that thing in my TJ.

Right on. I had planned on raptorlining my tub, so now I'm wondering how that will work out with those bolt heads. Did you just stick washers down on each side, and run the bolts through?

Aside from that, I'm still debating on putting something over that tank like a skid. I just couldn't leave it fully exposed. I'm going to end up putting something there, I just know it. My luck is too ****ty, I'd end up hitting something just right and ripping that clean through the tub.

Thanks for the pics. Got any more from the front or rear looking the length of the vehicle? I'm trying to get an idea of just how high up it sits. Thanks man.

Yep, just four 10mm socket head bolts with fine machine thread and a washer above and below the tub for each bolt. It's pretty darn stout. The hardware is black, and with my bed lining you can barely tell they're there, especially with the Husky floor liners covering them up. All four bolts fall within the driver's side, rear passenger foot well just behind the driver's seat.

I'm heading out to GWNF in VA in about 10 minutes so I'll PM you when I have some more pictures of the tank on Monday. Check back then.

AWESOME trip!! Stayed in Winchester, VA Friday night and headed out to GWNF (George Washington National Forest) near Harrisonburg (JMU) Saturday morning for some light trail riding (Flagpole and down to dry river bed). Camped Saturday night at river bed and headed home Sunday. Not as intense as Rausch, but we covered A LOT of ground, altitude, and had a great time.

First, some more pics of the tank for Bennet (missed a few spots cleaning up!):

And some of the 'ole TJ that others took on the trip (I'll have more once the GF uploads the pics off her camera -- I didn't get any on mine):

Rollin' through Harrisonburg:

I'll have a little video of this when I have the GF's pics:

Us at Sonic in Winchester (the GF had never been to one ... you should've seen the people's faces when we all pulled in, LOL):

I gotcha' I can't believe how expensive they are now! Even Rugged Ridge has bought them out and are selling them through Q-tec now for $150 per!! That's nearly 100% more expensive than only a few months ago! I hate companies that do that!! http://www.quadratec.com/products/product_search.php?kw=97011+10xx,97011+1900
