Yes, great thread.

Can someone give me a real world example of when the durango steering box would come in handy? I can decide if I should just put a skid plate over my stock steering, or get the durango box and try and find someone to custom a skid plate up

Probably because the TJ is notorius for leaking and the Durango isn't? Also I have a skid row steering box skid and the Durango fits in it.

Good question to ask. I was kind of curious too. The bad thing is, although I still need to check 1 or 2 more j-yards, all of the Durangos (for alternator and other goodies) are stripped. Yes, I know that other Jeep numbers fit too, but those are gone too, D@mn.

You should consider picking up these parts at local auto parts stores. Often times there prices are similar to junk yard prices and you get warranties with these parts.

I did my swap after Rausch Creek, when I discovered my stock steering box was leaking. Picked one up for $35 and a direct bolt on. Never had a problem again. It is more peace of mind for me.
