There are plenty of rear upgrades to pull from this or that, but I have yet to read anything about what to do w the D30 up front. I dont want to spend regear money on that D30. I am already workin on the 8.8 for the rear, but what if any can i swap into the front?

If you are going to stick with 33's than it will be fine. You can beef up a 30. Even a Rubicon dana 44 for the front isn't much of an improvement. An older Dana 44 would be better but they will all be different bolt patterns.

I kind of gave up on tryin to locate a D44 at a fair price. I do not plan on going over 33s I like to DD my jeep and I am verry happy with the 4" and 33s. any more may be too much for me. Im just breaking stock stuff now and replacing with nice new diesel a$$ parts. I dont want to break anything I just put money into, thats y i ask about the D30. sounds good tho.

What is the difference in the D30 i HAVE AND THE hp D30 from an XJ? is this a straight bolt in or does it get as involved as the 8.8 swap? is there a speciffic year spread that will work?

What year durango? I found a 2004-06 with 4.7/160 amp. This will just bolt right in my '06 sport?

The 98-99 Durango steering box is supposed to bolt right up from what I've read on various forums it just has internal improvements. A rack usually means Rack and Pinion which is completely different and would require some serious mods. I also own a 2006 Wrangler 4.0, thanks for the Alternator tip N8Doggz I will look for one this weekend at the Salvage yard. The front Dana 30 gets bent easily so if your planning on keeping the D30 you could truss the passenger side from the diff to avoid the smiley sydrome.

It isn't just internal difference, the whole cylinder it is housed in is larger. It still bolts up no problem.
Mine was off a 99

No problem!!! There was a sight given here that automatically seaches junkyards in your area. I think it was car-parts.com or something. Its in this thread. I found a 160 alternator for $100with 15k on it. Way better than paying about $400 for a MEAN GREEN!!!

did the 98 GC 136amp alt upgrade a few days ago. Went smooth as silk. i swapped the pulleys and the plastic piece. Also upgraded the charging cabling to 6 ga to accomodate larger throughput of amps.

(alternator from a 98 - ? grand cher with the 5.2 v8. its 136 amp)

The Durango steering box swap is a dirrect bolt up. its twice the size as the stock TJ box but the bolt holes and the hoses are identical.

not twice the size...that would be HUGE

The cap on the YJ/TJ/XJ is 3" The Durango is 3.5". measure the diameter of the cap on the front of the box( the actual cap size, the casting will be larger) The complete box diameter will bigger but I dont have the measurement.
