Is it possible to make this thread a sticky at the top or whatever it is called. Sure would make finding it easy. I know the search function works for that. Just an idea for us nubes.

This only qualifies as a junk yard swap as thats where the vehicle ended up after stripping what I wanted. I bought a 94 cherokee, 4.0 6cyl HO, auto, Pwr steering for 1K. Took entire drive train intact and replaced the 2.5 4cyl.,manual trans. in my 91 wrangler. I had trouble turning the 33" 10.5 tires with the wranglers armstrong steering. So I took the pwr steering box from the cherokee and it bolted right into the wrangler. Rebent and connected the hoses and no more fighting the wheel. My horn button was screwed and so was the steering wheel itself so I considered replacing wheels but heck the cherokee had intermittent wipers on the column so I yanked the whole cherokee column, cut off its firewall bracket and bolted it right into the wrangler. The connecting shaft was exactly the same. I plugged in the control module and presto nicer wheel with a working horn and intermittent wipers. If I get ambitious I might try to connect the cruise someday. It takes two keys now, one for the doors and the one for the starter but that's ok. All the wire connectors matched. I took a 4" cutting wheel and cut a square out of the floor of the cherokee around the 4 wheel drive and trans. shifters and brought them as a unit to the wrangler. I made a few minor adjustments and fastened it right over the holes in the floor of the wrangler where the old levers were. It looks factory. The seats from the cherokee were a lot nicer than mine so I decided to use them if possible. Well nothing was compatable there. I had to keep the wrangler seat brackets but the cherokee seats had completely different bolt design so I made adapters from shallow slotted strut and 3/8" strut nuts and bolts. I got the added benefit of sitting about an inch higher in the saddle now and can still slide up and back if needed. I had to shorten the rear drive shaft and lengthen the front as is common in this swap. The transfer case was different than wranglers so I took one shaft end from the wrangler side and connected it to the shaft of the cherokee side. Do you know you can take the front drive shaft from the wrangler and cut it in two and it will slide perfectly inside of the cut off front shaft of a cherokee? Man that made welding that together easy and I didn't have to give one thought to the right U-joint yokes.

The one I picked up was from a '94. The newer ones, I am guessing '97 and up maybe, have a modified drive shaft end with what looks like a CV joint. Not what you'd be looking for.

RandyYJ, nice find for $9.

What's the advantages of the Durango stearing box swap?
Also: What years Durango are compatible with what years TJ?
I ran front TJ springs in the rear of my TJ and it was a HORRIBLE, ROUGH, CRAPPy ride. Not only does the ride suck, but the spring rating is totally different, the spring shape is different, and they dont sit on the top spring seat well. They look bent. I ran them for a week, then took em off. Waste of time.

The Durango box has aarger diameter bore/piston. That is why it has more "power". It is shat I am using with 37s

The Front Coil Spring locks from a ZJ, bolt right onto a TJ and keep the front coils from rotating out of the seat. For some reason Jeep quit using these in 1998 but the mounting holes are still there on TJ's. Make sure you grab the self taping screws along with the clamps. There is 2 small holes at the bottom rear of the front coil spring mount on the TJ for these, the smaller hole is for the tab on the back of the clamp. I grabbed these when I was pulling other stuff off a ZJ and just threw them into my bag of Nuts & Bolts which I never get charged for. Jeep also quit using LCA adjustable cam bolts sometime in 98 changing to a thick round washer?

Here is the current list from what I read on the thread, I may have missed a few;

ZJ V8 Tie Rod (huge improvement)
XJ complete High Pinion front axle.
ZJ Front Coil Spring Clamps (Locks bottom of coil in place)
ZJ, XJ, or TJ front driveshaft to build a rear CV driveshaft.
ZJ front coils with isolators from a V8 will lift the front about 3"
Crown Vic rear springs will lift the rear about 3.5"
ZJ Disk Brake Assemblies D35 and D44 (huge improvement).
ZJ or XJ stock pitman arm = 4" drop pitman arm for TJ.
98-99 Durango Steering Gearbox (larger gears & piston bore, quicker steering radius)
Chevy Astro steering box (for those who want to tap for hydro assist)
136 Amp Alternator from 97-98 ZJ, Dakota, Durango, or Ram (OEM PN:56027913)
AMC or old school Ford York Air Compressors.
Perfectly balanced tires with 1000 20gram air soft pellets in each tire.
8.8 Ford Explorers 95-01 with disk brakes, easy upgrade for YJ's.
Transmission and Power Steering Coolers off many vehicles.
Various E-Fan upgrades.
