Brown Dog 1" Motor Mounts
I'm about to go with a body lift and want to use the Brown Dog 1" Motor Mounts, which I hear are excellent products. Anyone out there have any recommendations on whether to get the rubber ones or polyurethane? Their site just says that the poly's give it a more "sporty" feel. My guess would be that it would have more vibration than the rubber also. Just curious if anyone has these and can offer any input. Thanks!!!

Rubber is softer and will absorb more vibrations than polyurethane. Rubber will also (generally) have a shorter life span than polyurethane, but I don't see that being a big issue in the real world.

I had poly browndogs on my XJ. they were standard height. supposedly an XJ gets much more vibration from poly mounts because of being a unibody and not having the body/frame insulators to soak up the vibes. it makes sense to me. nonetheless I felt next to no vibrations with mine. you notice it a little bit at first but after a week or 2 you really dont notice any vibes anymore. what I DID notice is I was hearing more of the engine's exhaust tone. maybe people would more likely classify it as just engine noise but on mine it definitely gave the engine more "tone".
I have stock rubber mounts on my new to me LJ rubi. but once the $$$ allows I absolutely plan on adding brown dog poly mounts to my rig. I'd say go with the poly's simply because unlike the rubbers, you know you will never have to change em out again. not to mention they are cheaper.

I have the Brown Dog rubber MML and am pleased with it. I have read several posts on the forum where people have regretted using poly mounts due to engine vibes. When I took the OEM mounts off - 5 years old, they were in great shape. I don't envision these new ones wearing out for a long time.

FWIW, I have a Currie poly MML and I feel very little vibes from the engine due to the MML. I feel them slightly at a stop light and only while in drive. When I put it in Neutral or Park, the vibes are gone.
BUT - My engine skid plate mounts directly to the underside of the motor mount on the frame side, and connects directly to the transmission skid plate. Wth the engine skid plate on the engine vibes get a little more noticable, but same thing - put it in park, they disappear, put it in gear and they are apparent ONLY when stopped. Once the engine is over idle, you never feel them.

I have the Brown Dog 1" lift poly mounts. Go with the rubber! I have quite a few engine vibes with mine, enough to make the rear view mirror blurry. Torque on the mounts is essential to how much vibes you will get with the poly. I have been thinking of buying the rubber bushings to replace mine to get out of that but otherwise the mounts are great. Top quality product!

I had the poly mounts when rubber was not available, there was alot of vibrations esp with the a/c on...
When they came out with the rubber mounts i called Brown Dog up and they sent me the rubber one's. I switched them to rubber and am very pleased They are a company who stands behind their product i would definitely but from them and get the rubber one's! |

Years ago when I was researching doing a 1" MML I talked with an engineer who enlightened me to some things I didn't know.
If you install poly motor mounts and leave the OEM rubber transmission mount in place, your creating harmonic imbalance. If you install the poly transmission mount with the poly motor mounts, you have harmonic ballance. I had vibration with the miss matched rubber/poly mounts. I have no vibration with all three mounts being poly in my 2000 Sport with an automatic transmission when stopped in gear, or in neutral... |

We run brown dog poly mounts in both of our jeeps along with poly trans mounts.
The LJ has a slight vibration at idle, but it is livable. I prefer the poly mounts over the softer rubber mounts for the feeling of responsiveness and the lack of deflection helps with the tight tolerances when tucking everything up Go brown dog

First off the Brown Dog Mounts are awesome. They are very well built and not a bad price either. I have the poly ones and they do give some vibes. If I had done it again I think I would have done rubber from the beginning though. Not enough of an issue for me to get the rubber inserts and install them though. But I might do it sometime in the near future.
