Brakes Chirp when Releasing
After stopping at a stop sign or something, my '05 TJ usually makes a very soft chirp or squeek when I release the brake (just after stopping or slowing down significantly). It seems to come from the passenger side wheel, but I haven't checked with two people. Is this normal? Is there something I should grease? I guess I could call the dealership, but seems like the same ratio of problem ain as it would be for a lightbulb or something.
Thanks... just don't know as much as I should yet.

I hear the same thing. I did not realize it was the brakes.

I get the same thing too. Its been going on for a while. The brakes work fine, have plenty of life left, so I havnt been too worried. I'll probably look into it more when I replace the pads.

Sounds like the caliper may be sticking a little.

pedal
It could easily be coming from the pedal, I just haven't found out where, or decided if I should.

I have the same thing. I've replaced the brakes and lubed the calipers and it isn't coming from there. Maybe the shoes.
I'm not sure where in the pedal it could be coming from, as the noise is something on the outside.

We have the same squeek. As far as I can dertermine, it's coming from the right rear brake drum. On an old Jetta, we had the same noise after I did some brake work. It turned out that I had cleaned everything up so well that when the shoes retracted, the side of the metal plate they were attached to rubbed the axle side of the assembly, and i had clened up all the lubricants in that area. I put a VERY tiny bit of axle grease back on that edge and it cleared it up. I have a strong suspicion that that is very similar to the what's causing the sound from the TJ. I just have't been motivated enough yet to pull the drum aprt and investigate yet.

Does it happen during breaking or just when you release the pedal?
Mine were chirping when I released the pedal and found out it was a cable inside one of the drums that connects to the star adjuster for my parking breaks. I still had parking breaks and normal breaks but they were not as firm as they are now with that cable reseated.

i had the exact same problem with my 04 and took it back to the stealership.. they told me they will have to charge me to get the brakes inspected and cleaned since most brake components are not under warranty... after arguing with them for a while, i told them i will pay the 20$ as long as they get the noise gone and of course, they started to squeek only blocks after i left the dealership so i bought it back and said that's the way they are and not to worry about things... lets just say i got my money back and left a little patch of rubber so they can remember me next time by...

Mine does the same thing. Come to think of it, every Chrysler vehicle I've had has had the chirp. Think of it as a cool musical instrument option!
