Brakes brakes brakes....Whos got good brakes?
Well im running 4:88s front and rear with an aussie locker up front and detroit in the back. My driveline isnt the problem here..Im looking to go up to 34 LTBs and I want a better brake. I ahve the stock drums and that have a hard time stopping my 32 inch TSLs. I guess my cragar streetlocks dont help? What can I do to give me more stopping power? *enter JERRY*

I haven't installed them yet, but I just got the Vanco upgrade kit http://www.vancopbs.com/product_p/dkj1000.htm
From what I've seen it's the only decent way to dramatically improve braking.

I'm not sure where you will find larger calipers to fit the stock knuckles... which is why this kit was developed.
The kit uses a larger rotor and a larger, dual piston caliper. Another big factor with the TJs front brakes is that the pads ride on the soft metal of the knuckle, and will wear a divot causing the pads to get hung up... so they don't hit the rotor square. This kit solves that problem using replaceable stainless steel sliders.
The main source of cost is the machining done to the knuckles, after you buy the kit, they are no more expensive to service that the factory brakes. You can also sell your factory calipers and maybe even the pads & rotors to possibly recoup some of the original cost.

Yea i understand, and its a great kit! bot not for me. Im a college kid with two modded vehichles, and dont have $800 for brakes on the jeep. I'll just do some smaller stuff to help out a little.

Just trying to help keep you from wasting money on stuff that isn't likely to help, when you could instead do a worthwhile upgrade. It's no more expensive than your 4.88 swap. If you can afford that and 34" tires, then you can afford a sorely needed brake/safety upgrade if you plan to drive it on the street.

Short of mrblaine's and Vanco's (a joint collaboration product) dual piston brake upgrade like I wrote up at http://www.jeepforum.com/reviews/sho...uct=152&cat=54 there isn't much you can do that will make a real noticeable improvement. The best that most of us can agree on that helps a tad would be the use of Performance Friction carbon metallic brake pads. They make a noticeable improvement but it's still not enough for 35" tires. I ran them for years but never felt I had adequate braking until I installed that Vanco upgrade I discussed in my review of that product.

Will Vanco's big brake kit work with the stock Canyons? Or are aftermarket wheels required?

I believe that they do... but you might want to email Vanco to be sure.

Can the rotors in Van's kit be ordered to fit the Warn hub conversion?

They fit over my Warn hub conversion but my Vanco kit was a prototype. Since many of those who install this kit already have Warn hubs, I'd bet they come with the center hole machined big enough already.

Thanks!
I PMd Van to be sure before I decide to order the kit.

They're supposed to fit the small hub conversion as is, and my rotors do not appear machined. I believe over on JU mrblaine said a kit to fit the large hub will be developed soon.
