Bolt In D44 From 4Wheel Parts – Why Not?
I can get this D44, with Detroit, 30 spline Alloy USA axles, & GG gears, for just under $2,000- That price includes CA tax and shipping to the local store where I would pick it up.
http://www.4wheelparts.com/Drivetrain-Differential/MODEL-44-REAR-AXLE-ASSEMBLY.aspx?t_c=12&t_s=237&t_pt=100715&t_pl=6440 &t_pn=G%2fGDA44-TJ97-L410 Northridge 4x4 is a couple hundred more (without charging CA tax). A S35 would run me about $1,500 by the time I include gears & labor. I’m now thinking seriously about this D44. The price is only good through Saturday. Anything undesireable about 4Wheel Parts bolt-in axles? Are the GG gears something to worry about? Cliff

What size tires will you be installing? Genuine Gear is a house brand for 4WP.

That really is not a bad deal considering it comes with a Detroit and Alloy usa shafts.
Do you have 4.10 gears? Jim

Regarding gearing, I'll have the front D30 regeared to 4.11, and keep the Aussie. Yes, I know I'll need a new carrier.
Tires will be 33*12.50's, probably GY MTR's Regarding the gears - since they are installing them, and I assume they will be properly adjusted (backlash and all that stuff I don't understand), should I be concerned with the GG brand? |

save the 500 bux and buy a winch for 33's
edit, if your going 4.10 with the 3spd auto. Buy used axles from a 2.5 and add the Super kit. Last edited by never monday; 05-30-2008 at 07:24 PM.. |

Actually that's the decision I have to make, the S35 and $500 - 600 for something else, or the D44. As we all know, there are plenty of "something else's".
I've been watching the ad's here, Ebay & Craigslist. TJ 4.10 axles (from the 4 cyl) don't show up often. |

goto a junkyard, all the yards in cali I used to goto had tons of wrecked 4 bangers. But I say go 44 if you can and if you are going to regear go get an hp30 from a cherokee which will give you a strength boost.

4.56's would be painful with the 3 speed, stay with the 4.11's. If it was a 4 speed then gear to your max which would be 4.88 with the 30.

seems like a good deal to me. saves a lot of work required for rear axle work, plus you get alloy shafts and a detroit.
