body lift/tummy tuck VS. 2" budget boost
Hey everyone,
Just put some 31" Firestone mud terrains on my willys edition. Love the look, I'm thinking I might wanna stick with this tire for a long time and maybe not go any bigger. If I do, it'll be 32" or skinny 33", no more. No desire for 35's + and not into rock crawling. I like 4wd roads and trail riding type stuff. For those of you in northern california, stuff like Deer Valley is the most difficult I am interested in, and I made it half way through it last year on my crappy 30" all terrains. So the question is.... Should I plan for a budget boost or a body lift/mml and tummy tuck? I get hung up most on the "shovel", its always banging off rocks. The tires gave me a nice lift, the actual size difference was 2.5"+ The Jeep is my daily driver and I drive a lot. So the BB gets frame and everything 2" higher, but I still have the skid plate as a low spot? The BL/tummy tuck gets the skid up 2" and level? Whats the pros and cons of each? Thanks!

Why not do a 2"BB,1"BL,TT and skinny 33's.Larger tires crawl over larger objects much easier. Those stock Willy's crappy green wheels and tires are tiny(and ugly).

Here's what I did and am in the process of doing
1. Went to 31's stock - done 2. Added BB (I'm on a budget) - done 3. Will then add BL/MML and 33's when I can afford all together 4. Very shortly after I have to regear (I'm running 3.07's, blech!) Then, I may either 5. Switch BB to a true spring lift (I don't love the ride really but I think that is shock related) or 5. TT. This is actually fairly involved for me 'cause I'm not quite ready to tear into my transfer case for the SYE. I'll get there, just not ready yet.

I would vote for the TT,MML, and BL. You can always do a small suspension lift if you decide to go bigger later.

that tummy tuck will gain you alot of clearance. i cant tell you how many times i got stuck on the stock TC skid. i would say "1BL, MML, BB, TT, all of which will make you jeep a much more capable rig for not alot of money

it seem everyone has the same advice.. Body lift (just an inch) then you can do the MML (check out Brown Dog MML. Made in the USA and a vendor on here) then do the tummy tuck.. clayton make a good one but its not cheap, Rokman make a wicked one and are also a vendor on here and teraflex make one but some people have had issues with them.
All 3 of these things will be useful of you go any further with you lift but the tummy tuck will make a world of difference for you with smaller tires and catching the shovel like you do now. .

He doesn't have stock tires. He put 31" Firestone MTs on.

So would you need a SYE for a 3.25 lift with a 1" BL, MML and TT? or should i just get the 2.5 kit with the BL mml and tt? i just want enough to clear 33's with clearance.

A suspension lift + tummy tuck will 1) require a SYE 99% of the time and 2) be too much lift for 31's combined with the body lift. I think a 1" body lift, 1" MML, and TT would be excellent for you. The body lift will give you room to tuck the drivetrain up (and gas tank if you decide to) while also giving you more flex room for the tires. The MML will take care of any vibes the TT will bring. That's a perfect build for someone on 31's. And you'll still be at stock suspension height for a good ride and no other costs. Oh, and go Rokmen.
If you want to clear 33's AND do a TT, you'll need a SYE. I would go 2.5" lift, 1" body, 1" mml, TT, SYE, CV shaft, Rokmen/Currie control arms (rear uppers at a minimum). If you skip the TT and do everything else, you shouldn't need the SYE. Think of a TT as lift, because that's what the driveline sees. A TT gives you approx 2.25" over stock + 2.5" suspension lift=4.75" of lift. Too much for just a MML to take care of. I run the above-mentioned on 35's with plenty of room. You don't need the 3.25" lift. You may want the spacers in front but you definitely won't need them in the rear, especially if you trim the flares. |

BB = budget boost (coil spring spacers)
TT = tummy tuck (skid plate that raises the transmission/transfer mount and increases gorund cearance and break over angle) MML = motor mount lift BL = body lift
