Body Armor Swing Away Mount Question
The Body Armor rear swing-away (54") is on and I finally have all of the bolts tightened down (the alignment of the frame tie-in's allows for zero tolerance - it was an experience getting everything lined up!).
The question (this on an '06 TJ X): The three original spare tire rubber mounts that are mounted to the 'gate prevent the swing arm from closing. The minimal instructions that came with the bumper just state to "reinstall" the mounts (at no point do the instructions mention taking the mounts off of the tail gate!). The one closet to the passenger tail lamp was 'way too thick for the swing to even get near the closed position; I've sawn half of the mount off so that it makes contact with the 'gate and the swing when the swing is closed. The bottom mount and the driver's side mount I've not modified, but the mounts are "indented" where the swing arm presses against them. The question (ya'll just knew there had to be a question in here eventually ):How have others solved this issue? Removing the mounts altogether means a rattling swingaway with nothing to keep it from banging into the 'gate. Not modifiying the mounts, at least to some extent, prevents the swing from closing. Has anyone a better suggestion (please, nothing like "don't buy the Body Armor bumper" ) on dealing with the mounts?I like the bumper (no welding or drilling and I was able to install it without assistance, which is a huge plus for me); the only drawback is having to move the swing before opening the tailgate when accessing the trunk (pretty much inherit in the design, of course!). But I've gotten really curious about the rubber mounts, and how others have handled the issue.

On my Jeeperman swingaway, I installed it and trimmed down the rubber mounts too much and it ended up rattling. I put some washers behind the rubber mounts and now it is a tight, rattle-free fit. Your only option is to trim down the rubber mounts, you did the right thing.

Mine won't close with the rubber mounts, so I just took all 3 of them off and there is no rattle.

loose
I did the body armor too, but mine was loose. The only adjustment I had to make was to tighten in the u bolt for the latch.
sorry no help, but given the tolerances, it is surprising.
