Blue Box... Anyone seen one of these before?

I bought my Jeep last night and was going through the engine bay and found this:

Sorry for the crappy pics... It was dirty and hard to get in there.

Some wires run into the fuse panel in the engine bay... The rest I really couldn't follow. I wasn't dressed for tearing into the damn thing. I still had nice clothes on.

Tonight I'll see if I can get a name off of it. I have to replace my heater box blower motor resistor so I have more control, than full blast on.

Nice find! I wonder if this crap box actually works. Looks like it may not be hooked up all the way. In one of the pics i took, on the main unit, there seems to be almost a spark post on the unit that isn't connected.

They tell you how to install in that first link so you should be able to just read that and check it against yours...

I read through that thread and i can definitely tell that this thing isn't fully connected anymore due to that post not having a wire from it to the distributor cap.

I'm probably going to remove it from the engine unless someone says its a good mod. Seeing it distconnected tells me that it probably broke and that's why its not connected.

I say get the serial and call the manufacturer to see if it has a lifetime warranty... Maybe get a new one? Couldn't hurt to try....

That is a Jacobs Omni Magnum; it's an aftermarket ignition; I had one for a while; it went out in about a year; the couldn't replicate the problem after I sent it to them; the best they did for me was sell me another one at cost (about 1/2 price); I took it. sold it. it also went out in about a year.

I'm not even sure if they still make the Omni magnum. the last I saw was the Jacobs Off-Road ignition.

Depending on how long you've had your jeep, you may want to check your spark plug gap; with the Omni Magnum, they recommend a gap of around .20 over normal gap.
