Blower Fan out on one speed only...??
OK, this is wierd-ing me out: I was driving home from New Jersey with the AC going, and noticed a burning-rubber kind of smell coming from the vents...after a while it went away, but the next day, the fan speed selector switch on the heater/AC panel will work in positions 1, 2, and 4, but not position 3...it stops blowing completely when I set it on that position, no matter if it's on AC, heating, or defrost...
Anyone have this happen or know what the deal could be? I'm stumped (and it's probably something I should already know, so I apologize in advance for my nube-ness!) Thanx!!!

Maybe the resistor pack or could be the switch itself. More than likely the resistors. Check around with a multi meter. I think the resistor pack is pretty cheep. Jerry might pop up and tell you about how much they run. Good luck.

I had the same problem. It's the fan resistor module. And it's covered under the waranty. HTH

Same problem, too, but with fan position 2 and 3 out.
Anyone know where the fan resistor module is located? I heard it's under the dash on the passenger side. Is it in this location for all TJ's or just for a particular model year range?

Usually when the resistor pack goes out, the fan will only work on position 4 (the only position that bypasses the resistors). When mine did this a couple weeks ago, it only worked on position 3, so I pulled the switch panel out of the dash and sure enough, the plastic was melted around several of the pins on the back of the switch (probably what you smelled) which I replaced for $30 at my dealership and fixed it.
Your resistor pack is behind the glove box, just below the area you can see through the glove box hole in your dash. But again, I doubt it is your resistor pack. Just my guess...
