Bestop Supertop install

the old top had seen its better days. The soft windows had some scratchs in them, and the top has lost some of its shine from three seasons of wheeling. Overall the old top was in great shape, but a new Supertop with some tinted windows just really hit a soft spot with me. It came well packaged and protected. The windows were well wrapped to guard against scratchs. I got the kit with the two piece soft doors which would be much better for wheeling and sumer time cruising then the full doors. Overall installation on the supertop is a breeze. It took me about two and half hours from start to finish. This included taking off all of the other top and hardware and hassling the new top on. All of the Bestop hardware is well made. It bolts up fairly easy. It seems to me like Bestop spent some time designing this top. The hardest part of the whole install was getting the top to slide under to header over the windshield. The top comes creased during shipping so it can be a bit of a pain to install on the header. It was a bit hard to move the adjustment bars to get them clicked in to the first hole. After sitting in the sun all day I was able to get the top to stretch a bit and the adjustament bars to slide up a few more notches.

Some adjustments were made after the top was installed. I noticed that the passenger side door was making contact with the top at the header/window connection. I loosened the adjustable arms and slid the top over to the driverside a little to even out the top. I also noticed that I wasnt getting a tight fit with door seal and the top, so I had to slighlty tug on the hardware to kink it out a bit to fit tighter. After I did that it fit great.

get some of those felt tabs that go on cabinet doors, and put them on the outside of the metal bar that contacts the window; the foam part is ok. the bar won't scratch the window, and it will be as quiet as a mouse. it surprised me the difference it made. you don't hear the window slap the bar at all.

How's the top holding up? Did it turn into a piece of crap yet? Give it time, you will be disappointed. I promise.

i completely disagree. i have had my supertop for 6 years and it is still in excellent condition.

one other tip is to wrap electrical tape around the base of the bars that slip into the rings right behind the doors. this will stop them from rattling.

Pick a different reason because that one is both lame and stupid to perpetuate.

.... Mine flew off while I was on the highway, check it out

Ripped right at the seam. One thing I was particular about when I was shopping for a new TJ was what kind of top it came with. I bought an 01 just for the extra thick sailcloth.

I remember that post. Something about you being lazy and not putting it on right in the first place, or something to that effect.

Just out of curiosity, are you looking to buy a new Supertop? I can't see any other reason you would have obviously been searching for the topic, since this thread is a few months old now, and you seemed to have revived it.
