Bent Axle- Dana 30

Hit a curb and my axle housing is bent. I need a new one, mine has 3.07 gears and no ABS. Should I just replace with the same axle or is there a better axle that will bolt in with little or no alterations from a different jeep. One day I would like to upgrade too a Dana 44 or 8.8 on rear, but now im in market for a front. Any one got some advice on a good axle (the cheapest I can find for original dana 30 is $750 don't mind spending a little more if better.

Where the heck are you getting those prices? I sold the exact same axle you are looking for on craigslist for $150.

Actually the price I quoted $750 was the best I found from my brother who works at a chrysler dealership, kind of depression

Welcome to the Jeep Forum!

How did you bend the housing with little 31s??..I am running 35s on the stock D30 housing and my housing is as straight as it was 11 years ago from the factory.

Anyway here a link to a used one I found:

$450 used: Jeep Wrangler TJ Dana 30 Front Differential Axle 3.07 : eBay Motors (item 230431882588 end time Mar-03-10 08:58:06 PST)

Well big guy if you read the post instead of bragging about your BIG your 35's , you would have read about the curb I hit. Anyways don't mind me Im just pissed cause my jeep is broken down and I still only have 31's. Thanks for the research on ebay but do you have any suggestions on a better front axle(maybe a model that comes with a locker.) Also how is the super 35 holding up with 35's. I would rather do the super 35 than have to change the complete axle to a 44 or 8.8, but have mixed reviews.

Look for an XJ HPd30. I'm sure you'll find a lot of information if you do a search...

i bought a HP D30 for like $80, including the $15 enviro fee.

Go to a You-Pull-It or U-Pull-n-Pay kinda place...all axles are under $100 each.

HP D30 from junkyard 95-99 XJ
Weld tubes
Gusset C's if you want
Gear correctly. You have 3.07's now so you're going to want lower gears anyway.

Wasn't trying to sound like I was bragging...sorry about that... Anyway the best upgrade I think for the front would either be a HP30 out of a XJ (cheaper in $) or the front D44 (not so cheap)...and about the rear D35..I actually dont have the complete Super 35 kit..I have just upgraded 27 spline alloys with a tru trac and super 35 truss...and I love it and I beat on it all the time and haven't broken anything..but if I ever was to do it all over again I would probably go with the Super 35 axle kit for the locker (I love the tru trac but its not as good as a locker for the rocks) Hope that helps.

Thank you all for the advice. If I find a dana 30 with a different gear ratio. what would be the better gear to run 33's or35's(that's of course if I can buy a super 35 kit with the same gears for the rear, do they come with new gears or just better shafts and locker) sorry Im new to the jeep thing.

Depends on the transmission. I'll assume you have a manual (NV3550). 4.56 for 33's, 4.88 for 35's. If you have the auto (32rh), go 4.10 for 33's and 4.56 for 35's.
