Can someone please tell me what a belly pan skidplates purpose is please.
my boyfriend wants a "tummy tuck" for his jeep and i want to surprise him and get him what he wants and im trying to figure out if the belly pan is what he is talking about.
If you look at a jeep from the side, between the 2 wheels you will see a metal plate hanging down from the frame, concider that the belly, new skids are flat and align that metal with the frame. So when he goes over big rocks they will slide past or not hit at all with a skinnier belly.
type Transfer Case Skid Plate, Ultra High-Clearance and you will see them, there are many options, what year is his Jeep and how flat does he want to go?
Here are a few options
thank you guys so much. he has a 2000 tj. hes away for a month but just ordered a lift kit and hes extremely excited to get all his new stuff on. he was talking about this also so maybe he will get it! idk how flat he wants to get he has 32" tires and will have i think a 2 inch lift once he puts it together. i really know nothing about this tummy tuck business and info and input about what you think i would really appreciate it.
thanks guys for all the info. i have one more question. he just got the skyjacker hydro7000 lift kit-he didnt install it yet its sitting right in front of me but its going to be about a 2" lift in the end. is that a suspension lift or a body lift? bc it matters what kind of skidplate i get depending on if its a body lift or a suspension lift.
i clearly know nothing about this stuff-really appreciate it

Another important consideration is that if he has a 2" lift kit and then you go and buy him a 'Tummy Tuck' belly skid, he will almost definately need a SYE and new driveshaft....
Exactly what I was thinking. The no-BL skid from UCF plus my existing 2.5" SL just pushed my Rubi into some mild-moderate vibes. I might be able to get by with a MML, but if you throw a flat skid on with an existing lift, you'll almost definitely need the SYE(~$250), new driveshaft(~$300, and adjustable rear upper control arms (to adjust the pinion angle;~$200). Add that to somewhere between $300 and $1000 depending on the brand and type of skid (TC and engine, or just TC). That adds up quick.
another question...why would he need a SYE and new driveshaft? if all a skidplate is is a piece of alluminum that protects the underbelly of his car why would he need to touch anything else?
The whole point of this new skid plate is to replace the stock skid that hangs down 4" from the frame with a skid that hangs down 2" or less. This raises the transfer case and transmission up higher, increasing the angle of the drive shafts. The rear drive shaft is very short so combine this "tummy tuck" with any suspension lift at all and the angles will be too high for a standard single u joint drive shaft. The slip yoke eliminator "eliminates" the slip yoke rear output of the transfer case with a fixed yoke. This allows a longer, double cardan drive shaft to take its place. All of that stuff is useless if he can't adjust his pinion angle inline with the new drive shaft. So, he'll need adjustable rear upper control arms to do this. There's a lot to it but once done, the Jeep will be smoother than ever while also having significantly more belly clearance.
aha ok so the things that are needed to accompany a skid plate in this situation would be:
a slip yoke
adjustable read upper control arms
anything else?
besides the actual skid plate- roughly how much is all the rest of the stuff going to cost?
