Beginning of death wobble (axle video)

Check out this video. Its not the worst i've had, but it was shaking pretty good. Time to tighten up the bolts and check the toe in.

dude you have chassis videos for all occasions. I'm hooked

and I was driving down the highway (I-80 in PA) and they stripped the asphalt down so that it was all rough and choppy. I ended up with something like the onset of DW and it scared the **** out of me. It was so weird

x3, the chassis videos rock. you must have a sweet camera and camera mount to be able to do that with no vibes.

Its a "cheap" gopro camera. I bought a couple when i was at sema to potentially be a dealer for them, but there was not much interest so i never bought a case. They are ~$190 (~120 dealer cost) and come with tons of mounts (with 3m vhb tape!) and a suction cup mount. I have a mount on the jeep bumper and axle, as well as my snowboard, helmet, and a wrist cam. They are water proof to 100' and shoot 5mp pictures too (or every 2 or 5 seconds). Video is "high" quality (~30min / Gb) I have a couple videos from last weekend from a bumper mount that turned out pretty cool, i just need to edit them. If anybody wants one at cost shoot me a pm. I've been stoked with them so far. You can see how small it is on my helmet mount in this video. (crappy video while testing them)

Do'h, its getting worse every day. I had to pull off the freeway today to get it to stop shaking violently (way worse than the video). It probably started like in the video at least 5 times on a 20 min drive. My tires are near the end of their life so i need to decide if i should get new wheels and tires (33s), or balance these and run them another couple thousand miles. I was trying to attempt an alignment last night, but its too tricky by myself.

Driveway alignment tip...I just used it two days ago

Bungee cord a broomstick to each tire. Makes measuring much much easier

Bad enough that chances are you may soil yourself and be afraid of driving again for fear of it happening again

So you can rest the tape measure on the broom stick?

That video is maybe a 5/10. Today it hit probably a 8-9/10. The shifter was shaking about 3-4", the steering wheel was moving about 2", and the body was shaking side to side about 4".

Its weird because there was only a slight hint of it when i first put the lift on. After about 500-1000 mi its WAY worse and happens on every drive (to an extent). I suspect tire balance is the main cause because it happens at about 50-60mph, and never under that. Its real similar to a tank slapper on a sport bike. Maybe the rc dampener needs to be a bit stiffer?

Yea you can hook the tape measure on the stick and get an even and precise measurement front and back for your toe-in.

Just make sure the broomsticks are at the same height on both tires. So you have an accurate measurement

EDIT: added pic for reference

I got DW with 35x14.5 boggers, holy crap. I had experienced it before with 31's, but with the boggers I thought I was done for. I had a broken track bar and was trying to limp back to the cabin from the trail, it was horrible.

Thanks!! For some reason i was thinking you meant to stick the broom sticks towards the other tire! I thought "thats one hell of a bungee cord to hold them out like that, maybe a ratchet strap!". Its much more clear now.

Is that an air line hooked into your sway bar? got any info on that setup?

I feel your pain jgorm.... I just resolved mine after it reoccurring several times over the last year....
It took....

Replaced old worn MTRs that would not balance.... Went away... Replaced SS just in case since I was moving up to 33s from 31s...

Came back, reset the toe in on my alignment, it went away....

Came back... Replaced track bar, replaced track bar hardware since 4 Wheel Parts gave me the wrong bolts and re-tightened it twice.... Went away...

Came back after a while with my current 3.25" of lift....
Replaced my lower CA with some Rusty's adjustable arms and added back 3/8" length... Gone again....

Still have not done a rotor turning/replacement or replaced stock brake pads yet...
I am sure that will come sometime in summer...

I wish I knew...I snagged that pic off of a thread here about a year ago. I just have the currie antirock with no crazy air anything running off of it.
