Axle Repair Dana 35 Detroit Locker Help!! Pics inside

Help Please! I snapped my right rear axle shaft a few weeks ago and we are trying to remove the remaining piece and install a new shaft.

We have the diff cover off and oil removed, but at this point we are stuck. We see the detroit locker but we are unsure of what to do. From what we have read we know need to remove the cross pin pictured below. The problem is we don't know how to do this. Does anyone know the exact tool to remove this? I don't see any threads but I'm not sure.



After we remove the center pin, does the back portion pictured below come out? Is this where we can access the c-clips? Any advice on getting about a 6 inch portion of the shaft out once we remove the c-clip?

The second pic you posted is the allen head bolt you need to remove. The other one pictured does not but help hold the Detroit together.

35" MTR Kevlars

in a limited slip, there is a bolt that goes in the case horizontally to hold the crosspin in place. Not sure if a detroit is the same, but look for something like that. Never messed with a detroit, so I hope someone comes in and chimes in soon.

not a detroit, but same concept

The second picture, shows the access hole which would reveal the c-clips. Do you have a S35?

That allen head bolt in the picture you see is the bolt that hold the "pin" in. You'll have to remove the two bolts and main cap on the right side in order to get that allen bolt all the way out. At this point you should be able to get the pin out. The broken axle will have to be pushed in about 1/4-1/2" to get the clip off then you're going to have to figure out how to get it out the axle tube.

Do you know the size of the allen head? I can't seam to find any threads. All of my allen wrenches fit in the bolt shown in our picture one but none of them turn anything. Is it possible this bolt is stripped?

Which two bolts on the right side are you referring two? There appears to be 4 or 5 that hold the side cap on.

the circle (fig. 1) is the longggg allen screw you need to take out than #2 just slide the center pin out

Okay I think we are on the right track. Is there anything we need to be aware of when we remove these bolts? Do they hold any bearings in place? I think we are on the right steps.

Take out bolt 1 that is circled in the pic above me. The cross pin should come right out then.

DO NOT REMOVE THOSE 2 BIG BOLTS!!!!!!! dont touch them those hold the carrier/locker in.

Have you ever worked on a Detroit locker?
