axle question

I bought an '02 SE about 2 months ago. The axle ratios are: front - 4.10 and rear - 4.11. I'm assuming they're Dana 30 & 35. I'm concerned because the front differential has yellow writing on it, as if it has been replaced from a junk yard. Does any of this sound right? Everything is stock.

Even though its a 4 cylinder, it seems extremely underpowered. Would these gears appear to be normal/stock. Its my first jeep. A friend of mine has a '94 four cylinder, and his seems to have more power.

It is not uncommon for the housing to have writting on it from the factory. Those ratios are common for a stock four cylinder. I have read on this site that a very slight difference in front and rear ratio is not uncommon either.

As far a power is concerned, start saving for an engine displacement upgrade!

yes its the correct gears 4.10/4.11 not anything to worry about as far as the difference in gear ratio. What size tires are you running? Lots of guys with the 4cly regear to 4.88's, if you did that Id recommend you do a super 35 setup for your rear or just get a stronger axle to start.

maybe just the seat of the pants factor that your freinds 'feels' faster. it sounds like you have a normal stock 4cyl to me
