AutoZone
On my way home from work today, I stopped into AutoZone and bought an air filter for my 04 Sport (4.0L) The only 'brand' they sell is one I've never heard of -
Durolast. the employee said it was AutoZone's own brand. Well I got home, and tried to install it But it was a loose sloppy fit!- A little to small. I could slide to one side of the air box and leave a gap I double checked, and it was the correct part #. What a Piece of @#$@. I don't know if this the brand they sell in all AutoZones, but be careful. I will have to stop in at the dealer tommorow and get one that fits .Sorry for the rant, but this really p'd my off! Instead of selling another brand like Fram, they go through the effort of selling their own brand, that is just garbage.

Get a WIX filter from NAPA. most mainstream parts stores sell inferior quality, junk filters (air, oil, fuel)

This is another place I think where the supply & demand kicks in. People quit buying the garbage & they'll quit selling it. I learned a long time ago quality parts are worth more than a "lifetime warranty" on cheap parts. Off the top of my head I can think of 1/2dozen options of where I can buy my parts at.

Go to Walmart and get a Fram. It's much less expensive there.

My local autozone carries Fram, STP, other air filter brands too.... I forget. The Fram air filter is nice, looks just like OEM. It's just a folded piece of paper with a sticky spongey filter attached, too.... not anything fancy. The STP I got when they were out of Fram was a little small but it wasn't like air was going to get around it....
People pay $250 to let dirt into their intakes all the time. ![]()

ok, educate me. What, in your opinion, is the best air filter. I don't want to buy crap. And also, what is the best filter for someone with an ARB snorkel (plan on getting one).

Auto-no-zone and the places like it (O'reillys, Advance, etc.) all sell the same crap. A lot of it is worthless pieces of junk. However, every so often some of the stores carry factory parts. When i had my ford the autozone here sold the motorcraft oil and filters. I figure if that is what ford put on it is good enough for me. If you are lucky you may be able to find a mom and pop type shop, if it has not be driven out of town. I have had more luck finding what I need from those places than anywhere else.
