Anyone made a homemade Hood lift?

I've been eyeing those hood lifts but I've been thinking that it'd be cheaper to make one with parts from Mcmaster.com. I just dont know the lengths and shock stiffnesses. ANyone tried one or willing to check theirs for the shock stiffnesses?

No, he's talking about a aftermarket hood lift kit, it's pretty pricey for what it is

Hood lift, as in struts to automatically open your hood.

I don't see why you'd want these. Wouldn't they prevent you folding your hood back on the windshield?

No....the end of the strut detaches and allows the hood to lay back all the way. They work very well.

Would you be willing to get me some measurments and shock stiffnesses off your setup? In return I can do a writeup for your Awesome site.

BTW, I have to say, its one of the best sites I know of. Thank you soo much for all the help you have given me and other jeepers. I nominate you as a Jeep Mod God.

There is a complete write-up w/ photos on my site covering the install I did.

Edit: I can't give you measurements, etc. I know the person who developed the kit I installed and I won't do that to him. He did a lot of work on it before it went commercial. Me giving you that data just wouldn't be right, IMO. I'm sure you understand.

I think the idea of making one would be good. you could use a simple pin to remove it to fold the hood back.

I thought about getting one, but i rarely use the hood prop as it is because i just fold it back. makes it easier to move around with the stinger.
