Just out of curiosity has anyone checked to see what temps the differential runs at. What temps are considered normal operating temps under heavy load?
I got a new infrared camera at work and decided to check my differential temps that I just replaced all the bearings. I went for a 20 min run and verified both differential and to my surprise the front differential and the rear differential were within a couple degrees even though the front was just free spinning in 2x4. The rear is a ford 8.8 and the front is a stock Dana30. Check out the attached photos.
REAR FORD 8.8 (new bearings just installed first heat run)
