Anybody have the ARB Swing Out Rear Bumper?
Anybody have the ARB Swing out rear bumper?
![]() Now that I've made the jump to 35" tires, I can't rely on the tailgate any more. The ARB is a strong contender for the rear bumper... Is it really as easy to use as they make it sound? Latch open and slam shut? Any problems? Does the swing arm rattle at all while closed and driving? Would also be keen in seeing real-world pictures rather than press ones... Try not to focus on the price, because it comes direct from Australia for me in Dubai. All alternatives come from the states so I have to add Shipping to whatever the sale price is. Puts it on a more level playing field.

I bought mine almost a year ago. It's sitting in the box in my garage. I'm not sure I want it.

I have been using it for about 18 months now. I have been very happy with it. Its as simple as pulling on the latch (just above the logo) and it opens nicely with a gas strut to control the weight and swing. I have had no rattles or noises so far. It has been abused a bit with me backing into things (trees and stuff) while offroad, no damage so far. I have even used it as a step!
![]() ![]() Keep in mind, the install is pretty involved. It has a total of 18 bolts holding it to frame and the rear cross member. It is strong!!! |

Thanks for the pics Kiwi...
Looks like I'm gonna have to get a Dremel or a hot cutting knife for the Highline Fender Flares - they're bigger than stock in the back and I'll have to make a small hole for the ARB wrap-arounds to tuck inside. If that ends up being a bit flimsy then I'll reinforce them or simply cut them straight accross. |

I'll try to take some photos of how close the wrap around is to standard Renegade flare. You can't judge the space with the current photo.

I'll put up some over the weekend. Days are really short here now (start of winter), so by the time I come home its already dark outside.

Here's one from the race last week:
![]() Cut the fenders out with a grinder and sanding paper. Doesn't look too bad. Only an issue if you have the AEV Highline kit. I also spent about an hour adjusting the hinge and latch and everything and I've got it perfect now. It's SO worth the money to me. I'll be taking more photos tomorrow morning. |

Wow!
That bumper looks great! Thanks! I can't wait to put mine on. BTW. Did you notice how much height you loss when you put on the bumper? What kind of lift do you have?

I have a 4 inch lift and I would guess it dropped about one inch. I didn't measure it but it certainly looks more level now. In the past it was always tail-high.
If you go ahead and remember to do the measurements I would be interested ![]() It's a heavy bumper no doubt... but it's very well thought out and rock solid. That to me is more important than the overall weight. The car feels very tight overall now that I don't have a 33" tire bouncing on the tailgate. |
