does anybody have this set up? I've got a buddy who's picking up a stock TJ this weekend and wants to run possibly up to 37s. But wants to spend under 2 grand on lift, drive shaft, and SYE. The Rough Country 6" lift (though it's nothing special) costs around $ 1,000 bucks... any input???

So it's 2000 without the cost of tires? I wouldn't run a 6" short arm lift, your ride quality won't be so great. The lift costs what about 1000, then add in a steering upgrade of say 360, then add in the brake upgrade you will need for 900 or something around there, and you are above 2000. SYE costing around 500 or more. I don't think it's possible.

It comes with adjustable control arms.. i dont know if he's too concerned about ride. the kit seems pretty complete take a look; http://roughcountry.com/jeep_tj_6x.html i tried to talk him into the rubicon express 4.5 like mine and running coil spacers if he wanted to run the 37's but he didnt like the sound of $1,600 for their most basic kit. and when he first told me $ 2,000 i think he meant tires included. haha. I had to break his heart on that idea.

You also need to look at brake upgrades for sure I would go with four wheel discs due to the weight of the tire. Also 6" for a short arm lift is pushing it. The control arms are adjustable for small adjustments to get the axle pinion angles correct. If he wants to run 37's I would say do it right or not at all. What about a 4" lift and a 1" BL and MML and then a highline fender to be able to tuck the 37's in? That would be a nice LCG build. Take a look at these threads... Also what axles did it come with? Hopefully he got the DANA 44 rear and he will also need to regear too be able to turn the tires. From a couple minutes of searching and reading what I have found, I do not believe that it is possible to PROPERLY run 37's for under $1000

I ran 37's with a 4inch SL and a 1inch BL. I had a little contact in side the rear wheel wells on some plastic. Other than that I had no problems with tire clearance. I got lucky with my LJ and haven't had the big brake issue everone else has as my LJ will still stand on it's nose. I did step down to a 35 now and have a bit more up travel after some bumpstop adjustments. I believe the ride is similar on the 6 inch and 4 inch shortarm lift due tothe fact that the kits relocate the frame side of the CA's. Hopefully someone with a RC lif twill chime in, other wise all you are hearing is brand bias and recycled information. Good Luck.

theres a reason no one runs a 6" short arm lift. With control arm angles like crap you won't find knowledgable people running this setup. if you want your jeep to ride and drive like crap but look hott, go for it. if you want a very capable Jeep that rides and drives great then get a long arm lift from RockKrawler, Rubicon Express, Clayton Off-road or Treks.

the next question you need to ask is why do you want 6" of lift? there is no reason for this much lift - heck if you can drive you can cross crazy trails with 4" or less lift. what tire size do you want to run? do you have idea how much else is involved in upgrading your jeep to run 37s?

atleast one person has brought up the AXLE and GEAR RATIO problems..

if he doesnt have a atleast a rubi, or happened to get a d44 (then if its not a rubi its more than likely 3.73s as opposed to 4.10s)

tell him to think more about what hes getting himself into.. the CHEAPEST to get to 37s will be around 3 grand.. depending on what axles hes currently got

im completely aware of what he needs to do to run 37's I know plenty about what gears he needs and what axles.............. the question asked was if he could fit them with the 6 inch lift from rough country.(what i didn't know and i appreciate hearing is that the short control arms will ride bad and not perform as good) i also asked what anyone thinks of the SYE and Drive shaft from rough country. i want him to get a lift which he can run 37s with eventually if he wants to since he mentioned. i explained to him he should only run 33s or 35s for now. But if he's buying the lift i need to know if he can go to 37s when he's ready. SO, same question to anyone who has the lift or knows for a fact, WILL 37s FIT? ARE THE SYE KIT AND DRIVE SHAFT ANY GOOD FROM ROUGH COUNTRY.

so you're aware of the several areas of a jeep that need to be addressed to run 37s: steering, hydroboost brakes with big brakes for the front, at a minimum truss+alloy shafts for the TJ D30/D44 (forget about the D35), preferably HP D44 & D60 or 9" rear, roll cage, extended stainless brake lines, long arms. The D30 won't survive long, even with a truss and CTM's you'll end up replacing ball-joints and unit bearings every month. Even the stock TJ D44 is weak on 37s - the tubes are thin. to correctly run 37s, $2000 isn't going to work, you'll need about four times that. do a homebrew highline - you can fit 37s on 3" of lift and you won't have the center of gravity of an elephant, and you'll still have money to do necessary upgrades.

Yes with 6" of lift 37's will fit, and as for the SYE from RC I can not speak for that. I would go with a Tom Woods SYE/CV. Also stress to him that to PROPERLY run 37's it requires a lot of work, since you said you know about axles and gear ratios talk to him about that telling him that is he has a DANA 35 rear with 3.07 or even a DANA 44 with 3.73 his power is going to drop drastically and with the 35 he is almost guaranteed to break an axle shaft. Show him a progressive lift and get him to start with 33's and work his way up. Also with the 6" short arm it will ride very rough and will not do well off road. Tell him that he should do it right or not at all because if he doesn't do it right from that start he will be spending a lot more money in the end when stuff starts to break and it has to be replaced when it should have been upgraded from the start.

I have read several first hand accounts of Tom Woods shafts being unbalance and basically junk. I think the way to go is to post up a thread asking what people have had luck with what brand of SYE kits. I have heard to much about Tom Woods and poor quality.
