ANOTHER winch question...sorry
I posted this in the General Off road section but got no ideas....I know its another winch question but I am really curious as to what others would do.....
I know the warn name and trust the warn name...blah blah blah....BUT, I too am in need of a winch (well maybe not in NEED) and have found that the prices for 3 quality winches are about the same....
The Superwinch epi9000 (incliudes snatch block and has been recently reviewed and givern high marks), the T-Max 9000 (with roller and cable) and the Warn M8000 with hawse and 80' cable.
Let's just say that all the prices were equal and I would like to in the near future use rope instead of cable....What are some thoughts???
FWIW, I have found the Superwinch for $559, the T-Max for $525 and the Warn for $586...all through reputable vendors....
Would everybody buy the Warn? Even though the rating is less, the cable is shorter and it would have the hawse lead? I think the others are VERY capable products...oh, I have no local dealer for any of them.....

winch
That is an excellent question. I am in the same boat as you and would be interested in other opinions as well.
I was also considering the "Tabor" line from Warn.

I would go with Warn based on their lifetime warrantee which the other two don’t carry. As for it only having 80’ of cable and the hawse lead…that should be more than enough cable for most situations (all I have been in) and roller fairleads are cheap to pickup from anyone who has converted to synthetic rope.

These are made by Warn. I have the 12K but havent had a chance to use it yet. The price for the 12K is in the same ball park that you are looking at and the 9K is under 500.
Just something else for you to look at. Good Luck

Edit: The Tabor winch doesn't come with the Warn lifetime warrantee

Get the Warn, because you are going to replace the cable and fairlead anyway.
Sell the 80' cable while it's new, and you'll get decent $ for it.
(I have the same Warn, BTW. Info in my signature)

I was looking at the same models a while back and after seeing them each in person, I ended up choosing the Warn M8000. Specifications, reputation and warranty aside, the Warn just had a better fit and finish to it with nothing looking flakey or cheap. While the other two are probably great winches, for a just a little more I got the one I felt the best about...

I believe the T-max is a Warn China winch. I would go with the Warn M8000, when the cable wares out get a 100 or 120 FT Synthetic cable. Its faster and better warranty.

I know two folks with the Superwinch epi9000. They've been pretty dang good from what I've seen. I wouldn't trade my x8000i for one, but I've heard not a peep of complaints.
Don't know jack about the TMaxx
Warn.... those dudes have their ducks in a row. My little 8000 only let me down once and that was because it broke the rope before getting the dodge out.

Not everyone gets into jeeps at the same time. I asked the same questions when I was a newbie. If you don’t like the questions, don’t read the thread.

x2, Every winch thread ends the same way . But the Warn and forget about it. This should be a non-issue at this point. When trying to decide on a winch for myself I did a dozen searches looking for info and they all end the same, so instead of buying a t-max or superwinch a couple weeks back I am saving a little while longer for a XD9000i.

We were all newbies once and as much as I do agree, all nebies need to understand (and read) the FAQ posts and learn to use the search. I too have been hammered for not searching first when I was new, I did not take it in a negative way, I just started using the search before starting a new post. Seeing it from both sides, the long time members for the most part do not come down hard on newbies, even though many times they are aksing a question that has been beat to death:
Which winch should I buy
Which Rocker is best
Which lift is best
etc....etc.....etc.....

EaglesSJ, slow down there guy...I've been wheelin for just over 15 years and have never NEEDED a winch...I don't play in mud, I play in Moab. These other manufacturers must be selling to somebody....but there are far more Warn's out there because they have been around longer than the others and spend WAY more $$$ on advertising (no I'm not saying they have a poor product) but I choose not to use some of their "other" products because I think there are better manufacturers out there. As far as the odds go, people keep saying WARN WARN WARN because most of the time they don't know anything about the others....
Now, unless you have happened to owned and used the superwinch or Tmax, I would say you have nothing to add to this thread
