Another soft top question

01' Sport

I need a new soft top. I bought my jeep used it came from the factory with both a hard and a soft top but even after reading all of the comments on this forum I still don't know which soft top I have and what my best replacement option is. I want a top that is going to look and function like the OEM but what about sailcloth or a sun runner are those options is my top twill or black diamond etc, etc... Can anyone help with this?

Hey Now, Straight6!

FWIW, two years ago I replaced my OEM rag-top (circa 2002) with a NIB Bestop Sailcloth Replace-a-Top (RAT). It fit my existing, original soft top hardware, and was an easy install. The Sailcloth RAT is hands-down better than the top I took off: warmer (relatively), easier to roll down and put back up, and quieter than the OEM, I can even zip out AND zip back in the rear window! I can actually hold a conversation on the highway AND listen to the radio. Neither of which I could do with the foregoing OEM rag-top.

Shop around, if you're not in too much of a hurry, you might find a good or great deal on a RAT. YMMV, and invariably will...

What type of soft top came installed on an 01' sport with dual tops and what is my best replacement option? OlYellerTJ and others have said sail cloth is best but what about the sun runner I live in Houston that option could work well for me since putting a top up and down takes time v.s. lifting a front section. While the jeep is fourteen years old I am willing to pay more for quality since the sun down here beats a soft top to death and I spend a lot of time on the freeways. Is "best top" the best option?

I have a bowless Bestop Trektop NX. It has the factory style header and I like it a lot.
Whether you go bowless or just replace your factory bowed top I think Bestop is the way to go and if it says NX I think it uses the factory style header.

Do some browsing around here...

There's tons of info here about soft tops, use the search function and you will be blown away with results. Bestop supplied Chrysler with their tops. I am partial to the Trektop NX (frame-less) with tinted windows but my 02TJ needed the no-drill header for it to work. By far the best top (no pun) I have personally purchased. Gonna get one for my LJ when I can afford it.

I've done some additional research and found that sailcloth is quiet and popular as a replacement top even according to Best Top so why is Trill still used on all new Jeeps?

I got a trektop (old style), it's loud as hell. But great. I will replace it with an trektop nx.

The sailcloth besttop is the way to go for sthe stock replacement
