Another RMS question

Is there a sure way to tell if rms needs replacing vs. leak elsewhere? If it is the rear main seal, I am on the fence as to whether to tackle myself or shell out $350 local shop wants. I've done plenty of suspension work, 2 sye jobs, but not tried anything like this in the past...

Only a couple of places it could be leaking otherwise. Get under the jeep and look under the intake and exhaust on the block. If its wet there then its the valve cover gasket.
My 03 has a inspection plate that I can take off to look up at the flywheel area.

But a RMS is about a 1/3 the skill level to do a SYE. I have a hard flexible plastic putty knife and a copper rod the exact thickness of the seal. I picked up at hone depot. I use it to drive the RMS out a little so I can get it to slide the rest of way.
There are videos on how to do it on Youtube. watch those a couple of times and everything will just fall into place.
Just make sure you have torque wrench for the rear main cap bolts.

Pretty much the only place I see oil dripping is off the plate where the flywheel is, between the engine and transmission. Not a big drip, but getting slightly more than it used to be. I AM at 156k...

I've fixed 6 RMS leaks on my 9 Jeeps by adding 6 oz. of brake fluid to the oil.It swells the seals and fixes many small oil leaks.
